Hero Quest!

Skeleton
Skeleton
When I first started to get back to painting miniatures as an adult I'd been reading about things called "washing" and "drybrushing" and was quite eager to try it out. It sure sounded a lot better than the ultra-simple base-coating I'd done as a kid. This skeleton and mummy were my first attempts. I was completely floored by the results!
Mummy
Mummy
I think the mummy was based in a cream then washed with brown and highlighted with yellow. You can't tell what the original colour was any more. The eyes I just sort of splashed some red into and there's some red on the inside of the hands that's supposed to be blood. The reason I erased the background from the picture was because I used this as an archery target!
Zombie
Zombie
My next two figures were the zombie and goblin. You can tell because I used the same sort of sandstone base for them! These plastic figures are difficult to work with because the details are a bit sparse, but I'm pleased with the results I got anyways. I like the blue skin of this zombie. I think the original blue was quite a bit lighter and I liked that too, but I washed with a darker blue and then highlighted everything with grey. I especially like the black eye sockets and fresh blood dripping out of his mouth. I entered him in a painting contest but didn't win anything. I'm not surprised. When I did the wash I used too much water and it got everywhere!
Goblin
Goblin
I still haven't worked out how to do flesh very well so my creatures aren't so good, but I had fun playing with the colours. I think his shirt was supposed to be red and his socks yellow, but after the wash they sort of ended up the same. Oh well. I had fun with the sword because there's a little bit of glow-in-the-dark paint on it!
Chaos Knight
Chaos Knight
I'm not sure what I was going for here with the gold wash over the silver. I think maybe I should've tried highlighting it instead. Oh well. I still hadn't figured out how to do eyes yet so they are just dots of red inside the black visor. It works for me. The axe has some blue metallic on it and some red for blood. Why the yellow pants? I don't know.

I also have some HeroQuest figs in a little diorama that I still need to get put up on my website.
