There's comprehensive online help included with CATS for Windows, and it's also fully covered in the User Manual. CATS for Windows has been verified to run under Windows 95, 98SE, XP, 2000 and ME.

Download the CATS for Windows zip file, unzip the contents to a temporary directory and run the included setup.exe. When it finishes, you'll find a shortcut to CATS installed on your desktop, and a program group in your start menu. There are a handful of flight data files included with the installation, so that even if you don't have any data in your AFC-877 at the moment, or even if you don't own a FC-877, you can have a look at what you can do with the program.

CATS for PalmOS
CATS for PalmOS CATS is also available for PDAs that run PalmOS.

It will even display in-flight telemetry data when used with the AGTS/1 system!

CATS for PalmOS has much of the fuctionality of the CATS for Windows, including:

  • Upload flight data from your AFC-877 to your PDA
  • Enter flight notes that will be saved with your flight data files
  • Display a summary of the flight data
  • Graph altitude, speed and acceleration, combined and separately
  • Download flight configurations to your AFC-877
  • Display in flight telemetry data from the AGTS/1 telemetry system
The download contains the CATS PRC file and four sample flight data PDB files. Double click on the CATS.PRC file and any or all of the flight data files, HotSync your Palm, and you're ready to go. (It'll take a while for HotSync to transfer the PDB files, so be patient.)

The minimum requirements to run CATS are:

  • Palm OS 3.5 is the minimum OS version required, but Palm OS 4.0 or greater is strongly recommended.
  • A serial hotsync interface is required. Models with this feature include the Palm m125, m130, m500, m505, m515, Tungsten T/T2/T3/C/W and Zire 71, and various models of the Sony Clie. Many newer PDAs are USB only and will not work with CATS.

There's also a mechanism to transfer the flight data from your PDA to Windows. With the CATS conduit installed, all you have to do is plug your Palm into its cradle and press the HotSync button. The flight data files on your Palm are transferred, converted to the Windows file format, and saved in the directory that the Windows version of CATS has been using to store its data files, all automatically. Using the HotSync mechanism rather than having the Palm pretend it's an AFC-877 has the additional advantage of being able to use the higher speed offered by USB. A typical flight data set will be transferred in thirty seconds or so.

CATS conduit: Palm/PC connection software
CATS Conduit for Palm Desktop The CATS Conduit is a plug-in for the Palm Desktop for Windows. It allows you to transfer flight data from your Palm to your Windows PC, literally at the touch of a button.

Using the conduit is about as simple as you could imagine. Once you've installed it (complete instructions are included in the zip file), all you have to do it plug your Palm PDA into your HotSync cable and press the HotSync button. That's it! As the HotSync process occurs, the conduit copies the flight data (and any flight notes you've entered) from your Palm to your PC, and even puts the files into the same directory you've been using to store flight data on your PC!
