Please note:  It is Faunadael Pet Rescue's policy to assist local animals before helping those from other areas.  We focus on pets in British Columbia, but have assisted pets in Alberta and the Yukon.  There are still pets being killed in B.C.; it's just not made public like the pets you may hear about in other countries.  If you adopt a pet from a rescue group that rescues B.C. animals, you are making a space available for the group to take in another B.C. animal who may otherwise die in a B.C. shelter or pound.

Adopt an Animal Canada

Brindleweb's B.C. Pet Rescue Resource:  List of rescue organizations for all over B.C. and Canada, including specific breeds of dogs, a rescue forum, etc.  Somewhat outdated, but many working links.

** Petfinder - type in what you're looking for: type of pet, breed, age, size, location

** Adopt-a-Pet.com - (formerly 1-800-Save-a-Pet) - type in what you're looking for: type of pet, breed, age, size, location

** NOTE:  while both Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet.com are available to rescue groups in our area, many groups use one
or the other and not both, so it is wise to check both.

If you are looking to adopt a specific breed of dog, cat or other animal, do a search for a breed club in Canada, and check their website for an adoption/rescue link, or e-mail them and ask.

Disclaimer: Faunadael Pet Rescue and our volunteers do not necessarily endorse nor support the above organizations/groups, nor do we condone all of the information provided on the above websites.  Also, the above groups have differing philosophies from us, but have allowed their names and contact information to be posted as a community resource.

Opt to adopt: there are many animals in Canada desperate for "forever homes."  And yes, many shelters and pounds in British Columbia DO euthanise...it's just not made public.
