The Carpenter family came to America from England in 1638 and settled in Rehoboth Massachusetts. The family patriarch was Captain William Carpenter. He was born in Wiltshire England in 1605. Through his five sons, Capt. William Carpenter became the father of "The Family of Heroes." Over 300 of his male lineal descendants (230 proven as of August 1996) served America in the Revolutionary War. No other American colonial man had as many.
