The Wapiti Valley

Warnings and cautions

Rock climbing is dangerous!

It is even more dangerous than usual in wilderness areas like the Wapiti. You must be prepared to be completely self sufficient on and off the rock. In particular, rescue from Dale Earnhardt Dome is, for the forseeable future, just not in the cards. If you get yourself into trouble, it will be up to you to get yourself out of it.

The Wapiti Valley is part of a Tree Farm Licence and subject to logging!

You must treat this area as private property!! The entire valley has been clearcut logged and much of it has been replanted. You must not damage replanted trees. Access to this area is a privilege that may be revoked at any time for any reason. So far the logging company has been quite encouraging and helpful, but bad behaviour by climbers can change that fast!

Do not block logging roads!

The Nomash Mainline, the spur road off of the Nomash Mainline and the right hand fork at the campsite are considered active roads and the loging company may require access to them at any time of the day or night. The left hand fork, leading up to the Dome, is not considered active at present and may be parked or camped on safely. This is subject to change without notice!

This is a wilderness area!!

The entire area is inhabited by wildlife, including bears and cougars. Act accordingly and be prepared to give the right of way to the full time inhabitants. It is their home, not ours.

Please practice responsible wilderness use! If climbers turn this area into a garbage dump we will risk loss of access.
