1954-02-17: Launched. 1954-08: Delivered to Cunard Steamship Co., Liverpool, England. 1954-09-02: Maiden voyage, Liverpool to Québec and Montréal. 1957-06-19: Moved to the Southampton-Canada route, and started to be used for cruising. 1961-04: Moved to Liverpool - New York service. winter 1962-1963: Refitted for cruising and renamed Carmania. 1963 to 1967: Used on Rotterdam-Southampton-Canada route in summer, Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises in the winter. 1969: Converted to a single-class arrangement. 1969-01-12: Ran aground during a Caribbean cruise (out of Port Everglades); passengers transferred to the Italian liner Flavia to return to Miami. 1969-02: Returned to service. 1969-05-11: In collision with the Russian ship Frunze, no serious damage. 1971: Laid up in Southampton due to a staffing dispute between Cunard and the National Union of Seamen. 1972: Moved to Cornwall. 1973-08: Sold to Black Sea Shipping and renamed Leonid Sobinov; chartered to the British company CTC Lines for Australian cruises. 1973 to 1974: Refit at Swan Hunter, South Shields. 1974-02-25: Departed Southampton for Sydney. 1979-12: Australian cruises terminated when Australia banned Russian ships from their ports in response to the invasion of Afghanistan. Used as a troop ship between Cuba and Angola. 1989: Refit and mechanical overhaul. 1990: Registered in Malta, used for low-budget Mediterranean cruises. 1995: Laid up in Iliychevsk, Ukraine. 1999-01: Departed for the breakers at Alang, India. 1999-02-10: Transited the Suez canal. 1999-04-01: Arrived at the anchorage at Alang. 1999-10-01: Broken up at Alang. |
