NOTES: The Shaw Conference centre, built over 10 stories of underground mining tunnel, is a playground for the many lecturers and performers who have performed there, such as EntitySeeker (The Ghost Experience) and Marilyn Manson... as well as the spirits there.
EVENTS REPORTED:
Most don't realise that 10 stories beneath Edmonton lies a whole other world that only the Shaw conference security really get to explore... until they let us in.
We began the night with hearing stories from the kindly bakers and security that were there after hours of table cloths being ripped from tables - en mass, giant ravens appearing from nowhere bringing with them strange animal carcasses, and mysterious figures causing security to chase them through the loading docks only to have them disappear through walls. They also reported finding a body,
possibly a squatter, in the far reaches of the deep tunnels and they decided we had to see these winding passages.
None of us were expecting the 10 story massive tunnel we were led to that ended in a drop off which we had to climb down via ladder. It was like standing in the bare bones of the city, without any flashy PR or store fronts: This was the core of Edmonton. All of us found it phenomenal and were disappointed that we could not leave equipment to try any sort of testing; it was simply too noisy and
too risky to come back and retrieve it.
We were next led to a restricted room known as the lightbulb room and it was here they stored all the extra bulbs for the entire conference centre. This was where we were told the story of the raven which had appeared every night for a week to security just outside the lightbulb room. At nearly 3 ft high, it frightened them as they began finding strange carcasses around the area the raven was
frequenting. It did not seem to fear them in the least and once the week was up, it disappeared entirely, although the dead animals were still being left. In the room itself, security stated they had chased a figure into the space on multiple occasions which vanished. When we entered, it was difficult to walk; Our feet felt as if we were wading through clay. Temperature drops were felt by both Connor and Matt
but after a vigil there, it didn't seem to be active that particular evening.
All in all, it was a fascinating evening. Although nothing sensational occurred while we were there, the experience of being 10 stories beneath the city and visiting the locations where these phenomenal stories took place gives us something to look forward to when we return.
