The Hudson’s Bay building, Edmonton

Oct 19 2009

INVESTIGATORS: Matt Spearin, Laura Craig, Cathy Knudsen, Morgan Knudsen, Stephanie Wertz

Additional: Doug Bewick, Ryan Jespersen, Darrel Rodger, Chantel Tansowny

NOTES: Originally built by the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1899 as a trading post, this huge building still held imprints from the past as Breakfast Television allowed us exclusive access to the haunted underground corridors.

EVENTS REPORTED:

EntitySeeker had been looking at exploring the HBC building after hearing reports of construction workers seeing apparitions during their late hours as well as having tools, etc reportedly go missing. This investigation began with a tour into the CityTV studios where we split into two teams due to the size of the location. It also served as a kind of makeshift experiment as we had the privilege of having two people, sensitive to spirit activity, with us: Matt and Doug. Morgan, Cathy, Chantel and Matt made up the first team, while Laura, Stephanie, Darrel and Doug joined the second. Splitting in different directions and not wanting Doug or Matt to hear one another’s impressions of the area, we did separate tours of the first half of the building that made up the studios. Strangely, both of the teams were lead back (by Matt and Doug) to the same location on the second floor. In this space, both had written down that they had picked up strong impressions there of ‘imprinting’ or residual energy, but neither had felt like there was any conscious presence in the area that could be addressed or communicated with.

That in mind and with that area of the office still open to whoever was left there working overtime, we decided to continue to the main area of the building before we made a decision on where to settle down for an evening of monitoring. Guided by Ryan Jespersen, we made our way down into the basement to access the other side of the building owned by the University of Alberta. Immediately upon entering the tunnels, the atmosphere was distinctly different in a way that no one could quite put their finger on. Doug remarked however that he felt “Just awful”. After a quick run through the two blocks of territory, this corridor was decided upon and we returned as it was the only space that seemed like a possibility.

Again the two teams were split up, Matt going one way and Doug going the other. After a time of meditation, Doug reported feeling out of breath and recounted the feeling that there had been two individuals down there at some point, young, who had been running away from something. When asked from what, Doug stated that it was likely from something they had done, as if they had committed a crime or mistake. Cathy wondered if perhaps the heaviness they had been all feeling was a sense of guilt. As the team continued to try and illicit communication through EVP from any presence who may have been down there, the investigation dragged on quietly with what we thought was little result. Morgan then got up to find Matt and Laura, who had taken the other half of the investigation far down into the other end of the tunnels. When asked what he had discovered, Matt was quick to recant the same bizarre facts as Doug: Two individuals who had been running away at one time from a crime they had possibly committed. This was a startling coincidence as neither had been near each other to have even overheard these details.

As we wrapped the investigation up, we were excited about the coinciding of the investigators’ impressions but were thrilled to discover that our voice recorder had been recording all that we couldn’t hear also. EVP’s TO BE POSTED SHORTLY.
