Known for her clear, beautiful voice, powerful and literate songwriting as well as her rich interpretations of the songs of the Celtic traditions, Eileen McGann has been called "a Canadian national treasure".
Over the twenty-five years of her career, she has been the recipient of numerous awards, grants and accolades, including multiple awards from the Cultural Industries Branch of Foreign Affairs Canada, as well as from Canada Council, the SOCAN Foundation, The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, FACTOR and the BC Arts Council.
Songs that paint pictures of Canada's forests, mountains and wild places interspersed with songs and stories of trains, myths, legends and the challenges of modern life have made her a favourite at clubs and festivals on both sides of the Atlantic, from Vancouver to Boston to Glasgow. |
She has released six solo recordings, all of which have received international five-star reviews. Her CD “Beyond The Storm” was nominated for a 2002 Juno Award as “Best Album: Roots & Traditional.” The CD “Turn It Around” was named on ten different “Top Ten Albums of the Year” lists, including that of The Boston Globe. Her songs have been recorded by other artists in Canada, the US and Great Britain and have also appeared on numerous compilation CDs in Canada, the US and Ireland.
