Event table notes

Event data
Name: Kaiser Jubiläumsturnier
Place: Vienna
Start date: 31 May 1898
End date: 30 July 1898

Notes:
Di Felice gives results of the 8 rounds played by A. Schwarz before he withdrew. The results of his games were not counted in the official scores, but I include them here. Reichhelm gives totals with 1 extra point for all players, presumably because Schwarz withdrew part way through the first round after losing to some of the players; however, Schwarz drew against Blackburne, yet Blackburne gets the full extra point in Reichhelm's list, and Showalter is given 2 extra points in Reichhelm's list. Pope's crosstable indicates that Janowsky's and Alapin's wins against Walbrodt were by default. Neither the crosstables given by Feenstra Kuiper, Gaige and Di Felice, nor the scores given by Reichhelm indicate any defaulted games. I take Pope's table to be correct in this regard, and do not count the defaulted wins. The fact that Walbrodt lost 2 games by default is confirmed by the report in the British Chess Magazine reproduced at ChessCafé.
