Deborah Morgan, ARAD Dip RBS TTC
Director - Edmonton Dance Centre
(July 2-20, 2012)

Deborah began her training at the Arts Educational School in England, later receiving a scholarship for study at the Royal Ballet School. Upon graduation she was awarded the Royal Ballet Diploma for the teaching of ballet. Consequently she was invited to teach at the Alberta Ballet School, and was promoted to Principal in 1983. While there, she developed the professional stream of the school, introduced a teachertraining program and implemented the High School Credit program. She also proved invaluable to the Alberta Ballet Company acting as rehearsal mistress for all their productions requiring students and subsequently became a regular guest teacher for the company until their relocation to Calgary. Since resigning from the Alberta Ballet School in 1988, she has been in great demand as a free-lance instructor and consultant, and has served as a juror for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Alberta Study Grants and the Alberta Dance Alliance. In 1995 Deborah was awarded an Alberta Heritage scholarship and in 2000 was a Celebration of Women in the Arts honouree. From 1992 - June 1998, she co-directed the Edmonton Dance Centre becoming sole owner & director of the school in July 1998.

Deborah was also a faculty member of the Dance program at Grant MacEwan College from 1996 – 2004. Most recently she received appointments from the Royal Academy of Dance as a Practical Teaching Supervisor and Tutor for the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies. Deborah has had students go on to perform with the Dutch National Ballet Company, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Alberta Ballet, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and numerous other companies. Deborah is known for her expertise, artistic integrity, and her commitment to excellence.
   
  Monique Langevin-Connell, RAD Teaching Cert.

Monique trained in Edmonton before successfully completing the Dance Teacher Training Course at the Hammond School in England. After Monique returned to Alberta where she taught for the Vermilion Dance Assoc., Wainwright Dance Academy and the Kitscoty Dance Academy. In 1987 she accepted a teaching position with the Alberta Ballet School (now Dance Alberta.) During this time Monique was the Nutcracker Rehearsal Assistant for the Alberta Ballet for two seasons. Monique was also a faculty member of the Dance program at Grant MacEwan College for the 2003 – 2004 school years and has been a valued instructor at the Edmonton Dance Centre since 1997. She has successfully entered numerous students for examinations. Her classes are always full of energy and enthusiasm.
   
  Laurence Menotti, DE
(July 9-20, 2012)

Born In France, Laurence began her training under the careful tutelage of her mother Nicole Menotti. In 1978 she auditioned for the Geneva Dance Center, Switzerland where she graduated from the pre-professional program. In 1986 she was selected to compete at the illustrious International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria. That same year she accepted a contract with Ballet du Nord, France where she remained as principal dancer for fifteen years. She joined the Alberta Ballet in 2001 under the directorship of Mikko Nissinen. As a dancer Laurence performed in many ballets including the works of Georges Balanchine, Rudi Van Dantzig, John Taras, Jean Babilée, Paul Taylor and José Limón. While pursuing her dance career Laurence was able to work towards obtaining The State Diploma for Dance Teaching from the French government. She has taught in both Canada and France, is in great demand as a private coach and has been Ballet Mistress for Citie Ballet since 2006. Laurence enjoys sharing her stage experience and passion for dance to help her students grow artistically.
   
  Nadien Chu, BEd
  (July 9-20, 2012)

Nadien is an Edmonton based actor. She has studied theatre, dance, stage combat, clowning and singing. Her academic qualifications include both a BFA in Acting, and a BEd degree. Nadien has performed in numerous productions, her most recent being the part of Arsinoe in Northern Light Theatre's production of Cleopatra's Sister. In 2010 she was the recipient of an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Best supporting actor as Lavinia in Titus Andronicus. Nadien is also the co-founder of the physical theatre Vault! Theatre of Invention.
   
  Jacqueline Pooke, F.I.S.T.D.
  (July 9-20, 2012)

Jacqueline is a dance educator, choreographer and dancer who currently teaches in the Grant MacEwan Theatre Arts program. From 2001 to 2009 she also taught for the University of Alberta's BFA Drama Department. Her choreography includes works for Grant MacEwan University, the St. Albert Children's Theatre and Citadel Theatre's Young Companies. Jacqueline is a member of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (London, England) holding Fellowship and Examiner Status and has travelled extensively across North America and Europe examining and adjudicating dance. She has performed for BBC Television and in musicals for the New Brighton Operatic Society in England. She has toured the Far East as a dancer and has performed locally with RYTHMATIX and with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. She is also an original member of FREEFALL DANCE, a local jazz dance company.
   
  Kathleen Hughes
  (July 2-20, 2012)

Kathleen comes to us from a background as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and producer. Originally from Edmonton, Kathleen's love for dance began at an early age while studying at the Alberta Ballet School (Edmonton). Her interest in modern dance was sparked while attending the post-secondary dance program at Grant McEwan College. In 1995 she successfully auditioned for the The School of the Toronto Dance Theatre. In 1999, Kathleen co-founded a dance collective "The Aurora Dance Community" under the mentorship of Patricia Beatty (Co-founder Toronto Dance Theatre, Member of the Order of Canada) and in 2005 subsequently co-founded and became the co-artistic director of Niagara Dance Company. Kathleen has worked with Canadian dance artists such as Patricia Beatty, Bill Coleman, Terill McGuire, Graham McKelvie, Naoko Murakoshi, Elizabeth Chitty, and Nicole Fougere. She has extensive experience teaching children and professionals and most recently developed a program for the teaching of Graham modern technique to children 5 - 10 years of age. Kathleen has come full circle and is now living and working in Edmonton offering classes and creating new works through her company Kathleen Hughes Dance Production.
