In 1964, San Francisco designer Susie Russell and her husband Doug Tompkins started this business. They also have another partner, Jane who works with them in this business. Then in 1971, they cooperated with Michael Ying, who became the founder of the Esprit Far East Group. By the early 70s, the company was put together as "Esprit de Corp" with seven product lines. By the late 70s, the annual profit was $20 million in US dollars. Doug and Susie then formed international network for their company. They formed partnerships with Hong Kong and Jürgen Friedrich in Düsseldorf, Germany. Not long after, Esprit became known world-wide. Esprit outlets can be found in more than forty countries. It has at least 580 stores and over 6000 wholesale outlets. |
