Island of Death

(Nico Mastorakis; 1975)
(Image)

-Overview-

A couple vacationing on a small Greek island decide to teach all those immoral people around them a lesson by encouraging their deviant behavior and then systematically killing them.

I was pleasantly surprised with this film. Deemed sick and offensive at the time of its release, this is what the filmmaker intended. To make money off of the current crop of violent and controversial films at the time. While not overly graphic, the film’s budget was miniscule at best, and was in fact inspired somewhat by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s success a year earlier. I am disappointed with the way Image marketed this film, however. The cover has noting to do with the film’s contents, just a generic title, with the words “Banned!” and “Too graphic to show any scenes on cover artwork”. The film is good, and some may find it disturbing (The goat rape scene comes to mind), but I found the packaging to be misleading. Nekromantik this a’int. Goat fucking at its finest (I can't believe I just typed that).

-Sound-

Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono.

-Picture-

Standard full screen format, unfortunately. The print is flawless, however.

-Special Features-

- Director’s Interview

- Music Videos

-Packaging-

As I stated before, I was disappointed with the way Image packaged this film. Perhaps it never had any original artwork to begin with, though. Standard DVD keep case.
