Scarlet Diva
(Asia Argento; 2000)
(Media Blasters)
-Overview-
Anna Batista, an emotionally unstable Italian film star searching for love, struggles with the pressures of being a star, and just generally being messed in the head. She hooks up with a rock star in a club in France and ends up pregnant as a result. Convinced she’s in love she seeks out the father of her yet unborn child, only to be abandoned by him. She copes by burning herself with cigarettes.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this film, but I got what I didn’t expect that’s to be sure. The film contains tons of T&A and oodles of graphic sex, but even so it still comers up short. The plot is very disjointed, which at times left me thinking “what the hell?” as I tried to sort out what any particular scene had to do with anything else. Not a terrible film, but it’s not for everybody either. Rent first.
