Mars Attacks!
(Tim Burton; 1996)
(Warner)
-Overview-
When Martians come down to Earth, the United States Government optimistically meets with them to negotiate peace. When the Martians start to eradicate the human race, hilarity ensues.
This parody of 50’s schlock Science Fiction films based on the Topps trading cards translates very well to film. Tim Burton’s tongue-in-cheek directing is excellent, and the CGI used on the Martians is actually very well done (especially for 7 years ago). More of a black comedy, but fans of the horror and sci-fi genres will appreciate this one.
-Sound-
Available sound tracks include Dolby Digital 5.1 in English, French, and Spanish, and an isolated music track where the film can be viewed without sound effects or dialogue (Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround). Brilliant sound quality on this disc.
-Picture-
Available in both Widescreen 2.35:1 and pan and scan, the widescreen version is a wonderful print, with no noticeable flaws. I can’t attest to the Standard version, because I refuse to viddy full screen garbage.
