Jeepers Creepers

(Victor Salva; 2001)

(MGM/UA)

-Overview-

Brother and sister encounter a horrible flesh-eating demon on a desolate rural highway on their way home from college. Mayhem ensues. I really wanted to like this one, but alas, I guess it’s not to be. The two lead characters couldn’t be more annoying or imbecilic, the plot seems to have been written by a twelve year old, and the film is disturbingly devoid of T&A and gore. For the film’s entirety we get to be annoyed by the two lead characters bickering back and forth. The sister doesn’t have a normal speaking voice, it seems, but a low screech and a higher screech. The brother is a complete moron. The demon’s makeup looks like a bad Halloween mask half the time, and others it looks decent. This of course is probably due to the film’s budget being slashed half way through filming, but how much can a bucket of pig’s entrails and a topless girl possibly cost? Laughable and pathetic.

-Sound-

Presented in Dolby. No sound issues to note.

-Picture-

I was surprised at how grainy the transfer to DVD is with this edition. MGM could have done a better job, but perhaps they knew the film is a dud. Presented in both widescreen and pan & scan.
