Fanatic (a.k.a. The Last Horror Film)
(David Winters; 1981)
(Troma)
-Overview-
Vinny, a New York cab driver who aspires to be a major Hollywood Director travels to the Cannes Film Festival in hopes of meeting up with scream queen Janna Bates to get her to star in his first feature. Vinny’s obsession with Janna grows deeper as he begins stalking the starlet and soon her fellow colleagues start turning up dead.
A decent slasher flick from the early 80’s, Fanatic has some decent special effects and quite a bit of gore. Joe Spinnel is excellent as the nutjob Vinny the wannabe filmmaker. Plenty of T&A is prevalent as well. Unfortunately, the film suffers from some horrible dialogue and a really atrocious ending. Worth a look.
-Sound-
Adequate sound quality. The terrinle music score for the film (cheesy 80’s rock) is way too loud.
-Picture-
Poor. It’s obvious that this was taken from a VHS. The print is distorted and blurred, often times the film is too dark, and there’s tons of artifacting prevalent. Not to mention it’s in Pan & Scan.
