Delirium
(Renato Polselli [as Ralph Brown]; 1972)
(Anchor Bay Entertainment)
-Overview-
Criminal psychologist Dr. Herbert Lyutak is a deranged sex maniac who murders young women. His beautiful wife is tormented by visions of medieval torture and lesbian orgies. But as their madness grows more twisted, they will descend even deeper into a nightmare of dementia and depravity.
There’s actually two different versions of the film included on the DVD release. The American version, with a bit more gore and less sleazy nudity, and an International version with less killing but lots more depravity. Both versions differ greatly in terms of sub plots and ending. There’s plenty of naked womanflesh and brutal slayings of young girls but the killings aren’t that graphic, and the plot makes very little sense and is extremely disjointed. Rita Calderoni is a joy to watch as always, gracing the screen with some lovely nude scenes as well. Recommended for genre fans.
-Sound-
Good sound quality. Dolby Digital Mono.
-Picture-
A decent transfer with few flaws. Part of the print for the American version was damaged and footage was substituted from a VHS version with embedded Dutch subtitles. It doesn’t detract from the film at all. Widescreen 1.85:1 (enhanced for 16X9 TVs)
-Special Features-
- The Theorem of Delirium – All-new interviews with Writer/Director Renato Polselli and Star Mickey Hargitay
- Includes both International and American versions.
-Packaging-
Standard DVD keep case.
