Dead & Buried
(Gary Sherman; 1981)
(Blue Underground)
-Overview-
In the small seaboard town of Potter’s Buff a series of strange murders occur. Is the whole town crazy, or is there something more sinister afoot? The local sheriff soon discovers that the victims of these grisly murders are soon reappearing seemingly unharmed. He soon begins to suspect that the local Mortician may have a hand in these strange happenings.
I went into this one with really high expectations, and came back slightly disappointed. Somebody told me it’s a zombie film (which it’s not) so I was naturally thinking Dawn of the Dead material here. It’s actually a rather entertaining film, and the special effects by Stan Winston for the most part are very well done (with the exception of that poor animatronic head with the acid shoved up its nose). The gore is prevalent and there’s a tiny amount of T&A in the beginning (but nothing to write home about). A solid film from the early 80s that will surely bring back memories to many horror fans. This one’s limited edition, so grab em while you can, kiddies.
-Sound-
Again, brilliant sound quality. Included are four audio options: Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, 6.1 DTS ES, Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround, and Dolby Digital 1.0 (mono).
-Picture-
I noticed quite a bit of artifacting during the beginning of the film. A minor problem, however. Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1.
