-Overview-

A group of sorority girls are terrorized by an obscene phone caller over the Christmas break. The threatened violence soon escalates to murder, and when several of their number begin to vanish, the remaining girls appeal to the police for help.
This Canadian movie is a precursor to slasher films such as Halloween and Friday the 13th. Like the later When A Stranger Calls, it exploits the infamous urban legend of "the babysitter and the obscene phone caller" to great effect.
The cast is impressive for a movie of this kind. The story is somewhat straightforward, but there are some rather chilling scenes- the killer's phone calls in themselves qualify- as well as some unobtrusive bits of black humour.
