What's New

In the third week of May the VRCS had an informal meeting at the home of one of our most respected long time club members- Al DeLeijer of Port Coquitlam. Al is looking for a smaller home to live in and needed to have us relocate the twenty show cages he had stored for the VRCS. Joe Pietrobon and I were on the ladder for a while taking down the cages that Al handed us from his attic, and Ed Fong was on the phone not long after talking with Joe.

Later Al showed Joe and I his basement workshop, where he had many fine tools and much equipment left over from his days of working as a professional baker. What an interesting history this man has had. We enjoyed every minute spent with him as we shared memories of the good old days. I hope he will not drift too far from his old friends in the club as he moves slowly away from the hobby. Perhaps some of you that remember him and his contribution to the DRCA (while serving many times on the Executive) will make a call once in a while to see how he is doing in his "downsizing" into smaller premises. Al will not likely read this online message because like many of the old time "great ones", he has not much use for computers.

On behalf of the DRCA I wish to express my best wishes for his long and healthy retirement.
