Welcome to my web site!
It contains what I know about Glenbuchat and
my father's ancestors in Scotland. Ever since the seventeenth century they lived
continuously at a small "fermtoune" or "clachan" called Upperton in the Parish of Glenbuchat
(later called Glenbucket and then back to Glenbuchat), Aberdeenshire. They married into families in this parish
and also neighboring parishes of Strathdon, Towie, Leochel Cushnie, Mortlach,
and Kirkmichael.
This is a picture of the author, Doug Hay, in 2002. I have been pursuing my roots for about ten years and became a member of the Clan Hay Society three years ago. If anyone is interested,
check out the Clan Hay web site.
There are two purposes of this web site.
First to allow the viewer a virtual visit to the beautiful valley
of Glenbuchat and my ancestral home of Upperton.
Second to display my genealogy so that others may find connections.
Third to provide a link to a One-Place Study of the Parish of Glenbuchat
FIRST
This view of the Glen looking north was taken from the top of Ben Newe
by John Nisbet. At 565 meters, Ben Newe is the highest hill in the area.
The entrance to the valley is unseen off to the right. More detail and
pictures are given in the section on the Glen and Upperton.
SECOND
The genealogy
covered here is that of my father, Adam Hay. The picture of him was taken in 1956.
He emigrated from the Glasgow area in 1904. His father and at least five
generations before that were born and raised in the tiny Parish of Glenbuchat
( or Glenbucket ) , Aberdeenshire. I hope any of you who find connections
with your family will get in touch with me and together we can improve
or expand the information.
Many of the families that married in to the Hay
line are included here - such as
Allanach, Callam, Chree, Farquharson, Grant, Grassick, McConnachie,
McHardy, Michie, Ogg, Riddell, Strathdee.
