Dave's Radio Page

I'm interested in all sorts of radio-related topics. I have played with SWL, amateur DXing, and QRP but these have taken a back seat for the moment. Below are some links organized around topics that hold my interest at the moment.

For monitoring I'm using an Icom IC 725, a WinRadio WR-1550e, a Lowe HF-150, and a Radio Shack Pro-2032. I have a 25m dipole and a discone, both about 2m from the second-story apex of my roof. I'm running PC-ALE and MMTTY as well as the Database Manager, Digital Suite, and Universal FSK decoder software from WinRadio.

I was listening one night a few months ago and I heard a strange sound. I was tuning around 5800 kHz and it was so strong it overloaded the front end of my 1550e. I could actually hear it almost 100kHz away. Much discussion on the Spooks mailing list followed, but no one could figure it out. Then I had a brainstorm: could it be HAARP? I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, so I did. Lots of fun figuring out that one.

For once I don't really have any actual projects on the go. But I am thinking about experimenting with laser communications.
