Welcome to my small chunk of digital real estate!
Here you can get to know a bit about me and some of my
hobbies and interests. Feel free to look around and explore. You can even
drop me a line if you wish. This site is also the home of my miniature
painting and gaming pages, click the banner below to get there.

(12 January, 2005: Ok, for some odd reason
the banner that was supposed to be here got mangled in the chaos described
below. Just click on the 'Hobbies' link to the left to get there. Hopefully
I can get up to speed on Dreamweaver and fix the whole site.)

18 July, 2005
- Well, lots has been going on in my world that has prevented me from doing may updates of late... actually, for far too long. I am working on a new site, complete with domain name and forums. Hooray for me.
- I have added another person to both the Canadian Gamer List and the Canadian 40K List. (Thanks for the patience Sol!)
- I managed to hit the Bow River before all of the flooding and hooked several fish. Too bad that I could not get them in my net...
- My computer was fried during the flooding and I needed to replace the power supply, mobo, CPU, and RAM. At least I am no longer running on a crappy PIII 800...
09 January, 2005
- Ok, so something can definitely be said for reading
manuals... I had to upload the entire site from a back up to
correct the damage done in my haste to play with my new
program... I have since (like 5 minutes ago) re-installed
FrontPage 2002 to be able to update the site while I am learning Dreamweaver.
- I have added all of the folks that have emailed me so
that they could be on the Gamer listings found here:
Canadian Gamer and
Canadian 40K . If I have missed anyone just let me know and
I'll add you straight away.
- This nasty little episode has reminded me that there
are lots of parts of this site that need updating... better get
cracking.
06 January, 2005
- Well I
hope you all had a good holiday and had lots of fun. I spent my
time rebuilding my stupid computer several times and now, thanks
to a new hard drive, things should be ok...
I am using
Dreamweaver to do my web pages now but I haven't quite figured
it out just yet. I have had several requests to be added to the
gamer list which I will be doing just as soon as I can, most
likely on the weekend.
Update: Ok, so
the new program worked ok but as you can see there are no
bullets for the topic lines and if you check out the
Canadian Gamer page and the
Canadian 40K page you will see the new additions but you
will see that the funky Frontpage effects like automatically
updating the 'This page was last modified..' tags are broken.
Maybe I should read the manual...
Update:
Ok. So it looked like Dreamweaver messed up my site so I'll have
to try and find out what went wrong and fix it. If I can't get
any answers I'll have to go back to a backup copy of the site
and lose any of today's updates... Maybe I'll have to reinstall
Frontpage... Grrrrr!!!
06 November, 2004
- I just got back from Conflict Calgary (formerly known
as the Calgary GT) and I am very pleased to say that I won gold
with the only entry I made in the Masterclass Miniature Painting
Contest. My Legolas was fortunate enough to bring me a gold in
the Lord of the Rings Single figure category as did my Boromir
last year. I will try to post some pics of the both of them this
weekend.
25 October, 2004
- Corrected a few hyperlinks in the 13 October summary.
(Note to self: Learn to type!)
20 October, 2004
- Corrected an entry on the
40K list. Thanks for the heads up Toddler!
- Also added some direct links to the
Canadian Gamer List for those folks on the
40K list that supplied me with info.
13 October, 2004
- Several new additions were made to the
Canadian 40K Players list.
- I picked up the new Battle for Macragge box on the 4th and I have to say that I
am really impressed with the whole thing. First off, there are a
ton of minis in the box (10 Marines, 1 Imperial pilot, 10
Termagants, 6 Genestealers, 8 Spore Mines, 3 Infestation
Markers, 1 Hive Node, 1 Landing Beacon, 4 Force Field
Generators, 1 Fusion Core, and 5 good sized pieces of a crashed
Imperial Shuttle) as well as range rulers, dice, and
templates/markers.
Then we have the two books included. The first is
specifically for the Battle
for Macragge game and contains six missions designed to
introduce the Warhammer 40000 rules step by step. It starts off
with basic movement and shooting and goes all the way up to
using all of the minis in the box along with multiple objectives
for the sixth and final mission in the book. The book also
points you to the Battle for Macragge website where you can find
eight more missions (with the promise of more to come) and a
campaign guide for free download. Assembly and painting advice
is in the book as well.
The last book is the main rule book that is an exact copy of
the first eighty nine or so pages of the new 4th edition
hardcover rule book released in September. Even the page
references are the same as in the hardcover. This book is even
good for veterans of the game as it is much smaller than the
hardcover and therefore easily portable. You get all of
this for less cash than the hardcover rulebook. It's a great way
to spend $65 CDN and get into the new edition of 40K at the same
time.
08 September, 2004
- Things have been pretty hectic around her lately due
to an unexpected trip to the ER last week so my updates I had
planned were not done until now...
- Six new recruits were added to the
Canadian 40K Players
and Canadian Gamers
lists.
- Part 2 of the
Great Canadian
Stripping Contest was added.
- All new miniature related photos will carry my new
trademark/logo for my soon to be published minis only website.
It would have been done much, much, sooner but I was having a
real heck of a time with frames using MS FrontPage so if anyone
out there has any good advice on how to do them properly drop me
a
line.
19 August, 2004
- Additions so far today are mainly to the
Canadian 40K Players
and Canadian Gamers
lists.
- In addition, I would like to give a well deserved
congratulations to Boltman, who is the most recent
addition to the above lists, for his remarkable winning of the
Slayer Sword at the Canadian Games Day
(held by Games
Workshop) in Toronto. I say remarkable because he has only
been in the miniature painting hobby for eleven months! It just
goes to show you that anything can be accomplished with hard
work and dedication. Way to go Boltman!! For those of you who
don't know what the Slayer Sword is, it is an actual sword given
as a prize for best overall in the Golden Demon miniature
painting contest. For those who paint Games Workshop miniatures
it is the highest prize attainable, and it is usually won by
folks who paint minis for a living!
06 August, 2004
- A couple of big updates today: I added a page for the
Great Canadian
Stripping Contest, as well as a section for
creating
perfect decals on my miniatures
page.
- I also added a
page for finding a gamer near you. I expect this page will
grow rapidly as I had many requests from the folks at the
Bolter & Chainsword for a listing of non-space
marine armies and games. It is still in the early stages as I
still have to re-contact everyone that wanted a list for their
other armies and games. Email
me if you want on the list!
- Some links were added and others tidied up.
05 August, 2004
- I added several more names to the
Canadian 40K Players List.
Thank you for sending me your info!
- It's been a busy time around here what with all the
camping and fishing and home renos so I am a bit behind in my
promised updates. One such update should be done by tomorrow at
the latest.
- According to the news last night we here in Alberta
have seen more tornados and tornado warnings than we have in
decades, and that was just for the month of July! Good thing
Dubya says there is no such thing as global warming or climate
change... thanks for the comforting words George! But hey, I
should talk considering good old Uncle Ralph's environmental
record... got anymore of those 'non-polluting' coal burning
power plants in the works Ralph? (Can you tell I'm a little
rankled today??)
28 June, 2004
- Remember Canada!! Get out and vote!!
Let's make every one of our votes count today because we really
need to make a change in Ottawa!!
- I have been working on a few projects that should make
it to the site in the next week or so... Summer is just so
distracting what with the sunshine and all...
16 June 2004
- Well, I'm back from Las Vegas, NV and what trip it
was! Having been there only once when I was only eight or nine
years old I have to say that my memories of the place certainly
didn't do it justice. The only casino I had been to was
Circus
Circus and then only to see the critters and performers with
the casino people all the while reminding my poor mother to hold
our hands. I wonder what my (younger) brother remembers of it?
Things have certainly changed let me tell you! Too bad I didn't
get a chance to see what Circus Circus looks like now save for
the outside. I was mostly at the
Luxor,
Mandalay Bay,
Excalibur, and
the Aladdin. Having
never gambled before I found the whole place kind of
overwhelming but once I settled into it it was rather fun. The
fact that we came away with more money than we went with
certainly made things better. All in all I'd have to say that
I'd go back for sure and you certainly can't see the whole place
in only ten days.
One highlight of the trip, was my very brief trip to
Valley of Fire State
Park. Having studied archaeology in university I found the
ancient
petroglyphs by the various inhabitants of the valley most
interesting and I really wish that I had had more than just
fifteen minutes in which to study them. the
geology of the area was quite fascinating as well as the
area is composed of several different and complex faults that
have become juxtaposed in the most odd ways with earlier
formations on top much later formations, and the whole thing is
still not really understood by current geological principles.
Well, enough of that...
13 May, 2004
- The 40K list gets even bigger....
08 May, 2004
07 May, 2004
- Even more additions to the Canadian 40K players
list...
05 May, 2004
- More additions to the Canadians added to the
40K list. Keep 'em
coming! No to get cracking on painting my own army, or at least
some pictures up...
04 May, 2004
- I added a few more folks to the Canadian B&C 40K
players list.
Thanks again to everyone that has sent in information and
compliments!
03 May, 2004
- At long last I have finally completed a little
project that I was working on. Well, actually, it's been done
for a while but I was waiting to hear back from a few folks
before proceeding... There is an excellent resource on the web
for all things 'Space
Marine' for the miniatures battle game 'Warhammer
40,000'. This excellent resource goes by the name of
the
Bolter & Chainsword. I have compiled a
list of all of the
(known to me) Canadian 40K players from the
B&C and you can find it by clicking
here. I hope that
this list will help folks find new opponents in their area and
maybe even make a friend or two.
22 April, 2004
- Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to Me, Happy
Birthday to Meeee, Happy Birthday to Me!
11 March, 2004
- Last night I saw a premier screening of Johnny Depp's
new movie
Secret Window. It is based on a Stephen King called
Secret Window, Secret Garden. I rather enjoyed the movie
despite the 'host' sponsoring the premier inadvertently giving
away the ending with a reference that I will not repeat here.
Johnny Depp did a fine job of portraying Morton Rainey, a best
selling author who is going through a rather difficult time in
his life. Unfortunately, this is not a movie that you can talk
about to any extent with those that have not yet seen it as
there are some thrilling plot twists that really deserve to be
experienced without any fore knowledge.
I think that the only negative things I would have to say
deal more with being wedged into a rather tiny seat (my local
theatre has those nice, wide, reclining ones that actually
accommodate folks with the clothing required for a Canadian
winter), the massive woman beside me constantly using my arm
(which was mostly in my lap) as her own arm rest, and the people
from the row behind (darn journalists) coming and going to get
popcorn, of which a portion was naturally obliged to take up
residence down the back of my coat and in my girlfriend's hair.
Thankfully the popcorn was not of the buttered variety.
- I added a nifty little link in my
Favorites page dealing with some
rather nautical kittens. Go the
Favorites page or just click
here.
10 March, 2004
- I went shopping today and it was a disaster. Click
here to see
just what happened...
- I had my three cats enrolled in an obedience class at
the local pet store, but I think I should ask for my money back.
Here's a picture
of them after graduation.
22 January, 2004
- I have done some reorganizing of the Warhammer 40K
miniatures section. I added a page about
resources for power
fists and lightning claws for Space Marines, as well as a
main page for 40K miniatures.
Thanks to everyone over on
The
Bolter & Chainsword forums for their help with the list of
resources. I highly recommend the B & C for all kinds of
information pertaining to Warhammer 40K Space Marines. To see
the new stuff or visit the B & C just click the links above.
18 June, 2003
- On Sunday (15 June) I found a baby bird near my front
door. It had fallen out of it's nest and was now easy prey for
the neighbourhood cats and children so I took him in and have
been feeding him and keeping him safe. Normally I would put him
back in his nest but the nest was far too high for me to reach
so the decision to keep him was a simple one to make. I intend
to release him once he is able to fend for himself. In the mean
time he is safe and warm and full of food. I swear he has about
a hundred hollow legs on him....
- I corrected the links to Glynn Evans'
Miniature Painting
Guild to reflect his new host. Be sure to check out his
new and improved site by clicking
here or the link
above.
10 June, 2003
-
Work continues on my website reorganizing
albeit slower than I had hoped. I am in the midst of assembling
and painting my
Dark
Angels army (the roster on my site is out of date, the
new one will be posted as part of the site reorg) for
Warhammer 40000. The reason for this is that my friend
Kieran who is the manager at the local
Games Workshop
is moving out of province and I want to have at least one game
with him before he leaves.
- Taking up even more of my time is
Starfleet
Command III which I got a hold of Friday evening. I can
definitely say that it is just as addictive as the first two
versions. In SFC 3 the developers have made it possible for your
ship's crew to gain experience in the positions to which they
are assigned.
Because I got tired of constantly referring to the manual in
order to see what the different skills actually do for your
ship, and then checking my crew's stats at the nearest starbase,
and then checking the manual, etc., etc., I made up a
spreadsheet in MS Excel 2002 to keep track of all the
information in one place. You can download it for your own use
here.
12 May, 2003
- I have had "painter's block" for quite a while now so
I have decided to change my website and do a bit of
reorganizing. Look for the and improved website soon.
31 January, 2003
- I have added a couple of links to my
Favourites page. Check them out
for a few good laughs.
13 December, 2002
I made a few quick updates due to being way overdue in the
update department:
- I added a bunch of photos to my photo gallery that I
took while travelling home from Edmonton in mid October.
- I added some photos taken at the
Calgary Zoo during a
preview of their annual
Zoolights Christmas lights display where I am
volunteering during the month long event.
- I finally have a name to go with the photos of the
spectacularly painted
Warhammer 40000 Tau army from the Calgary Grand
Tournament. Check it out here.
- I also added a link on my
Hobbies page to a fellow Canadian named Pat Gordon's
site that deals with
some really fantastic war games terrain.
- I have finally been able to sit down and paint some
minis without reaching for the painkillers. I have now nearly
completed a tactical squad of
Space Marines for
Warhammer 40000. Look for them, and my Space Marine
Painting Guide™ here in the near future.
15 October, 2002
Wow, it's been over a month since my last update... I'll be
able to do more frequent updates now that I am getting better.
Here are the latest updates:
- I managed to catch the last hour or so of the recent
Calgary Grand Tournament held on September 14th and 15th by
Games Workshop at the Radisson Hotel here in Calgary. Of the
many photos I took only three were not blurry, etc. and they are
definitely worth looking at. You can find them on my Warhammer
40000 miniatures page, or by clicking here.
- I was finally able to go fishing after being injured
back in June and it did wonders for me to get outside instead of
being confined to my bed/couch/physio-therapy centre. You can
read about it and see some photos here.
- At long last I have gotten around to adding some content on my
Battle Tech page. I added some
photos of 'Mechs that I painted about fifteen years ago. I still
have about twenty pounds of unpainted ones as well.
- I added some more photos to my D & D
miniatures page.
- I am making progress, albeit slowly, on my Space
Marines painting guide for Warhammer 40000.
25 August, 2002
- Apologies for the lack of updates this month, my
injury has prevented me doing much of anything and physio
therapy really takes a lot out of me to the point that I am too
sore for long sessions at the keyboard.
- On a happier note: I have changed the site to reflect
my ISP's user size limitations (10 MB) and have therefore linked
all of my images to another site. This will allow me to add more
content such as the step-by-step construction and painting guide
for Warhammer 40000 Space Marines. Speaking of which, the guide
is coming along nicely and I should be able to post the first
part by the end of the week.
09 August, 2002
- Fixed some broken links for my Warhammer 40K army
rosters. Remember kids, never make updates to your web site
while under the influence of morphine. ;)
08 August, 2002
- My back is still preventing me from doing much of
anything and as such the updates below were done in bits and
pieces since July 20th. I am posting them now before I forget
where and what got updated. ;)
- I added some Tips & Tricks
to my miniatures section.
- Today I added a page for the
Warhammer 40000 game to my Gaming
page.
- Rosters for my new Warhammer
40000 armies were added. You can reach them from the
Warhammer
40000 section of my Gaming page.
- I also added a page for
Warhammer 40000 miniatures. Oddly enough, it's in my
miniatures section.
- Part two of my "Making
Hills for Wargames" has finally been added.
- I am in the process of making a complete step-by-step
guide for building and painting the Space Marines that came with
the Warhammer 40K game. Look for it here in the (hopefully) near
future.
19, July 2002
- I replaced a few scanned images with digital photos on
my D&D miniatures page.
- I am nearly at the size limit for my site as set by my
ISP, so I will have to decide what to do with all of the other
photos I now have. I will probably put them on another site and
link to them from here.
16 July, 2002
13 July, 2002
- I have good news and bad new for today. First the good
news:
- I finally received my macro lenses and had to test
them out quick and dirty like. I chose to take a few quick snaps
of two recent works, Boromir and Legolas from the
Fellowship of the Ring. I am
very impressed with the quality of the photos but the extra
detail sure points out areas that I need to work on for future
miniatures. To see the new photos, go
here.
- Now for the bad news, as some of you may know, I
recently injured my back in an accident at work. This injury is
causing me extreme amounts of pain and really limits what I can
do with my life until I get healed. As I can not sit nor stand
for longer than twenty minutes at a time, any updates that I was
hoping to have in place have been taking a great deal longer to
come about. I will try to get more content added as I am able.
05 July, 2002
- I added a new page for SCUBA
diving in my Hobbies section with a
brief history of my diving life. I have well over 100 dives
under my belt so I hope to get a lot of content on that page.
Unfortunately my recent back injury prevents me from spending
any great deal of time at a desk so new content for the site has
been delayed. On the upside, the pain killers make the days go
by rather quickly. :)
27 June, 2002
- Added a new page for miniature painting resources.
Check it out here.
- I am working on a module for
Neverwinter Nights a great
new game from Bio Ware, a
computer game company right here in Alberta. It will be just
like a real D&D module (with the limitations of a computer
game).
- Fixed a missing link (my bad) on my
About Me page.
- The macro lenses for my digital camera still
have not arrived so no new mini pictures. There will be a flood
of pictures when they do get here.
17 June, 2002
03 June, 2002
- Photos were added to my Photo
Gallery from a recent drive through Kananaskis, Alberta,
which is only about 30 minutes from my home.
27 May, 2002
- Due to protests from the photogenically challenged
(wink, wink), I
have been forced to remove the photos from the wedding.
26 May, 2002
- Photo's from Gord and Nicole's wedding have been
posted here.
20 May, 2002
- I have added a page for my
Orcs & Goblins army for
Warhammer.
- I also added another page for my
Empire army for Warhammer.
31 March, 2002
11 March, 2002
- My site is finally up and running so everything is new! Have a
look around!
- Pictures were added in the Miniatures
section
- Pictures were added in the Photo Gallery
