Frequently Asked Questions

The following are some questions that are frequently asked by potential students

Q:  How can I obtain a license?  Will I be a licensed P.I. following completion of this course?

A: Students should check with their local licensing agency / Justice Dept. for information regarding licensing in the area they wish to practice.  You will not be a licensed P.I. through CAPI.  Each state/province/country has their own criteria.

Q:  What "extra charges" can I expect while working on the course?

A:  Certain agencies ( land titles, government agencies, courts etc.) may charge a nominal fee for their information.  Ask about their charges before you order the info.  It is usually a small amount.  Most students will incur costs of under $50.00 in total.

Q:  Do you have references of former students and what is the success rate of persons taking this course?

A:  You will notice on the "Application Form"  that is states that all information will be kept in confidence.  Therefore, it is not possible to give past student references.  CAPI does not track students after completion of the course.  We know that there are many many people working in the industry who have completed the course.  It is a well known course in the P.I. industry.

Q:  Are you a member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau) ?

A:  No, we are not.  In past experience we have found the BBB to be a "for profit" organization who has provided us with outdated and inaccurate information.  We therefore will not give funds to this type of service.

Q:  Can I carry a gun?

A:  Each country / state / province has their own licensing requirements for carrying firearms.  You must apply directly to them for permits.

Q:  How much does a P.I. make?

A:  There is a variance of fees throughout the industry.  Take the time to check the fees charged for services in your area of practice.  Don't try to under charge your competition.  People pay $75. / hr for a mechanic.  Your services and time are worth $ to your clients.
