Following please find information on upcoming CDCC workshops; contact CDCC if you would like more information.

Future Training in these locations:

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

  • to educate others about the effects of disasters on children
  • learn appropriate responses to children suffering from stress and loss
  • understand the functions and goals of play in the child care centre
  • to set up a child care centre
  • be able to mobilize a team of care givers in an event of a disaster and manage the volunteers at the time of service
  • to examine motivations for volunteering and wanting to care for children in disasters

DISASTER CHILDCARE WORKSHOP SUPPLY LIST:

  • sleeping bags, pillows, sleeping pad
  • personal supplies needed for the overnight stay
  • writing material
  • flashlight
  • names and contact information of references that could be used if you decide to apply to be a caregiver.

Please dress casually as the workshop is interactive and we want you to be comfortable.  Staying overnight will help you learn if you are comfortable staying with a group of people living at a disaster site.  There are no classroom activities scheduled at night.

All meals are provided.

Attending the workshop enables attendees to share information about working with children and to sensitize participants to the needs of children following a disaster.

Due to the committed support of British Columbia's ESS Program Office we are able to offer the workshop in British Columbia to ESS volunteers for $ 20.00 and $ 50.00 for non ESS members.

Cost of the workshop in all other provinces is $ 50.00 per person.

Attending the workshop does not put you under any obligation to apply to be a volunteer with this program.
