SPECIAL CARE FOR PATIENTS WITH CROWNS, BRIDGES  AND PARTIALS

Restoration patients present some some very specific home care challenges. If you have had extensive crown work (Caps) you need to pay special attention to the area were the crown ends and the natural tooth begins, the margin of the crown. With bridge work you need to stimulate and clean the gum tissue under the bridge as well as clean thoroughly around the abutment teeth, that is, the natural or implant teeth that the fixed bridge relies on for support.

Bridges place additional stress on your natural teeth.  If these crucial teeth become decayed your fixed bridge or partial will have to be re-done.

Another enemy of these critical teeth is gum disease. Gum disease, simply put, can cause the tissue to detach itself from your natural teeth. This detachment may cause the teeth to become loose. When wearing a fixed bridge or partial this may cause discomfort or the inability to chew properly and loose your natural teeth.

Proper oral hygiene is the best defense against gum decease.

We recommend a visit to the Dentist for maintenance every 2 to 4 months depending on the patient. The traditional time frame for cleanings of 6 months, is only good for patients without extensive restorative work.
