Synopsis

Lovers & Heroes, The Debut EP of newly formed trio, Despite the Blindness, is a four song EP that explores the lure of lovers, the frailty if heroes, and a little bit of the big show. Two songs stem from earlier projects; Paper Hero, originally demo'ed for 2000's Trinity-Despite the Blindness, and How Many Times Must I Wake, originally demo'ed in 2006 for Seabrook's incomplete solo album, Bulletproof Poet. Both songs, re-recorded here, show a maturity that Seabrook, Gonzalez, and Nowaselski bring to the compositions. However, it is the two new songs Seabrook and Gonzalez have written that really highlight the journey the band is starting. Long Walk to Daylight, a story of two lovers trapped, one by the cage and the other by love, has trance like verses and I Mother Earth style breakdowns. Little Circus a dark comedy about the entertainment industry, jumps with bouncy verses, Incubus-like pre-chouruses, and Tom Waits influenced breakdowns.

Synopsis

In the summer of 2000, when college rock band Raven Skies disbanded just one month before entering the studio, vocalist/guitarist James Seabrook used the time to record an ambitious concept driven demo. An awkward blend of acoustic and heavy sounds, the album took the listener on a story of discovery and failure. While the story is largely unclear and somewhat disjointed, it would steer Seabrook down a much different acoustic driven musical path. There are some solid individual tracks. Power rocker "Voice" experiments with time signatures and catchy choruses, while "Shine" and "As Far As Nothing" showcase Seabrook's early singer/songwriter and would fit well on his future independent releases.
