Our Park Association

What, you might ask, is a Park Association?  And the answer is quite simply this:  a park association is group of individuals, like you, who love our parks.  We come from all walks of life, are all ages, and have different areas of interest within our parks.  Some like to read about current events in our newsletters; others like to be hands-on volunteers.  What we share in common is a desire to bring the treasure that is our Regional Parks system to everyone’s attention and to ensure these green spaces endure for generations to come.

It is a juggling act.   The mandate of our Board of Directors is to promote education, conservation, and recreation that is compatible with conservation.  This means that you will find our volunteers promoting fun events, such as Heritage Apple Day, where the community can learn about our agricultural heritage and our centenarian orchards.  You will find us inviting your help in pulling out ivy that is climbing trees and smothering native plants on the forest floor.  And you will also find us promoting trails for walkers, cyclists, runners, disabled users, horse riders, and dog walkers—but not all trails for all users;  we need to leave as small a footprint as possible on the landscape, and we need to respect the differing needs of our various users.  We also need to respect the needs of the wildlife and, for that reason, you will find that not all areas of the park are open to the public.  Our sandhill cranes need space to live, too!

So it is that your Park Association is a busy group!  We work hand-in-hand with Metro Vancouver Regional Parks to promote and protect the finest regional park system on our continent.  Enjoy our website, learn about our parks—for they are, indeed our parks—and become involved.
