Deborah Nicholson

Deb NicholsonDeborah was born and raised in Western Canada moving from the prairies of Saskatchewan, to Calgary and the Rocky Mountains and then Vancouver Island before settling back in Calgary, Alberta. She attended school in all three provinces and college in Alberta.

Deborah was born and raised in Western Canada, a combination of prairie farm girl who craves the big city night life and the smell of the Pacific Ocean. After realizing there was no such combination available in Canada, she settled in Calgary and is now a 28 year resident of that city.

Deborah has worked a multitude of jobs in a multitude of industries, which she reports is not a problem with her commitment level, but due to tireless research for the books she would soon write. She ended up at the Calgary Centre for Performing Arts after the 1988 Olympics, which means she's the only Calgarian that can't regale you with tales of what it was like downtown during the Olympics. Apparently it was lots of fun! Deborah stayed at the Centre for five years, ending up as House Manager for Theatre Calgary.

Deb comes from a musical family; her father having been a child prodigy and her mother the first girl in the Moose Jaw Marching Band. Family events were full of song and sounds with various guest artists from all corners of the country. She was also involved in school and community drama clubs. Deborah was first published while in Junior High School, and has more recently been published in some local Calgary magazines.

In 1993, Deborah completed her first novel. She then waited to become an overnight success. When that didn't happen, she spent ten grueling years trying to find a publisher. Along came Severn House, who has purchased the first five books in the Kate Carpenter murder mystery series set in Calgary. She is still waiting for that overnight success part, but in the meantime her novels are available in eight countries world wide, with a growing fan base with every release.

Deborah lives in downtown Calgary, where she lives and works with some wonderful and truly supportive people. She continues to write and publish new novels. She continues to do volunteer work for her favourite organizations and backs that up by donating a percentage of the profits of all her novels to various local charities.
