Conservation

Destination Conservation - is a practical, activity-based program that brings environmental education alive in our schools. It not only combines hands-on learning with resource conservation, it saves school districts money!

Saskatchewan Enivronmental Society - Destination Conservation has saved Saskatchewan School Divisions over $650,000 and prevented over 5,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in just six years of operation.

Kids Go Wild - (K - 12) - is a fun and kid-friendly destination for anyone interested in conservation and the wild world of animals.

Nuuanu School - Kids Saving Our Future - the 3rd grade (E-1) class decided to create a Native Hawaiian Plant garden in the back of the library. The purpose was to beautify the campus and to preserve some of the Native Hawaiian plants on the island.

Earth Day

Earth Education: The Biomes Web Tour

Biomes-Habitats - (3 - 6) - a treasure chest of resources awaits you at Enchanted Learning's Biome site. Find in-depth information about biomes and detailed related animal information pages.

The CyberZoo: Your Key to Biomes - (6 - 8) - seventh graders from the Whitesboro Middle School in New York partnered with scientists to create this phenomenal biome resource. You'll learn all about the plants, animals and climates that make different biomes unique.

World Biomes - ( 4 - 8) - the West Tisbury School from Martha's Vineyard presents this fabulous resource, where you can click on each world biome to find out about its plants, animals and climate. The maps at this site are especially useful for teaching the locations of world biomes.

WebQuest: World Biomes - (4 - 8) - develop your student's researching, organizing, writing and presenting skills with Stephanie Hicklin's Biomes Web Quest. Students systematically gather information about biomes using their local library and Internet resources.

Biomes of the World - (4 - 7) - the Smithfield Rhode Island school district created this resource on biomes such as lakes and ponds, rivers and streams, coral reefs and more. You will find tons of related links, student artwork and interesting tidbits of information.

Biomes of the World - (K - 12) - information is available for the six biomes of the world - rainforest, tundra, taiga, desert, temperate and grasslands.

The Green Frog News ( K - 8 ) - this site is your FREE resource for SCIENCE and ENVIRONMENTAL education.

Phytoremediation of TCE (Tricholoroethylene) in Groundwater using Populus - When it comes to ground-water pollution from Tricholoroethylene (TCE), a common contaminant of our nation's hazardous waste sites, scientists have discovered that certain trees can be harnessed for clean-up. The process is called phytoremediation. At this site, you can read a high-powered 1997 report prepared for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency highlighting the use of particular plants in removing contamination from soil and shallow groundwater, and detailing the role played by poplar trees in phytoremediation treatment technology.
