Yahoo- indexes a selected view of the Internet, organizes resources into collections

LookSmart- great source for popular interest

WebRing - is the best way to find great web sites, share ideas with peers and participate in topical communities for FREE.

Open Directory - The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors.

Search Engines

Search engines create a collection on demand for you, based on your search question. The important thing to remember is that the indexes to this collection are machine-made, built of actual words used on Web pages and in other resources. Software "robots" comb web pages throughout the world, indexing all their words and adding them to the master list.

Findspot - a gateway to Internet search tools that people can use to find information

Lycos - very useful for searhing for pictures and sounds

Hot Bot - combines search services with adventurous reading

Ask.com (adult) - for adults, lets you type in questions that are answered

AltaVista - easy, straightforward and doesn't distract with a lot of extra stuff

canada.com - a Canadian Search Engine

Go.com - combination search engine and directory

Excite - combines the features of a search engine and a directory

Northern Light - searches the Web and full text articles ( for a modest cost )

Google - is the developer of the award-winning Google search engine, which is designed to provide a simple, fast way to search the Internet for information.

Vivisimo - Organized search results with document clustering.

All the Web - has one of the largest indexes of the Web. It is the largest database of pictures, videos, FTP and MP3 files.

Wisenut - WiseNut is a LookSmart search engine.

Eduhound - it is a relatively new addition to the world of educational Web sites. Billing itself as the "search engine for everything educational".

netTrekker (3 - 8) - students will perform safer and more effective searches with netTrekker. Sites are grouped by traditional school subjects and are previewed and screened for content.
