Welcome to the UBC course EDCI 396C, 93S, for the Spring Session, 2004. The course starts May 10th. and finishes July 31st., 2004. It is an electronic course and correspondence with me will be via Email, David Brear. Please note that I have set up my Email to respond automatically to your Emails. If I am not at my computer, you will receive a message from me that says " Just to Let You Know" !!
If you need to phone me, my office hours are Mon, Wed and Thurs from 7:30 -10:00 pm, 604 980 3130. I have an answering machine to take messages if I am not by the phone. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Wherever you see a hot link, eg. David Brear, you press on it and it will go to the link it is linked with, eg., web site, Email address or even link within the course web site. Let me know if one or more does not work. I try really hard to make sure all the links work.
Try this site, All The Answers , for easy-to-understand explanations of the Internet.
I will be updating the course Web site on weekends with course notes and new Web sites to try. Each week I will "hotlink" another set of Module notes that can be found in the Modules section of the course Web site. These Module notes are based on each of the Chapters found in the text. It is expected that you will read each Module. You will find that each set of Module notes contain many of the example Web links found in the text. You just have to "click" on them and you are there. I will indicate what's new with something called an animated .gif, an example is below,
Look for it the next time you are on.
I strongly suggest you look at the Assignment section as quickly as possible. Please send me your questions if you do not understand what you have to do. Assignment # 1 and # 2 last for the duration of the course. I expect a learning log from you for each Chapter read and corresponding Module read, one per week, and a final log ( reflections on the course ) for a total of 11 Learning Logs. Please label it as Learning Log #1 or #2. etc... Thanks !! I also encourage you to Email each other. Email for the participants in the course can be found in Class Email Addresses. Please send me a copy of your Email to each other and I will keep an electronic copy.
All the other Assignments are due upon their completion. I have included a tentative timeline for your assignments on the assignments page.
