INTRODUCTION

My name is David Brear and I am the course facilitator. My home phone/fax number is 604 980 3130. I am taking this opportunity to welcome you to the UBC course EDCI 396C. You will need access to Email and a browser (eg, Netscape ) for gaining access to the World Wide Web. You will find it extremely helpful if you have your own computer.

Have you bought the 3rd Edition of the text, The Teacher's Complete and Easy Guide to the Internet ? I keep an electronic copy of what I send you plus what you send me. I am on the Internet almost every evening. I will be checking for your messages. Please send me your questions.

I originally taught the course as part of the Tri U course offerings for UBC at SFU in the summers of '96 and '97. The electronic version is almost 7 years old and constantly being revised and updated. I have taught for UBC in the Educational computer department since 1992. I taught for the Vancouver School Board for 23 years. I left the VSB for Coquitlam in September '98. At present, I teach computer studies to Grades 9 -12 at Centennial Secondary School, Coquitlam.

I am also a LEGO dacta teacher trainer. I give workshops on DUPLO, LEGO dacta and LEGO dacta ROBOTICS to groups of teachers in school districts on request. Call me if you would like me to come and give a workshop at your school or school district.

I am also on the Board of Directors and as well a teacher adjudicator of school applications for British Columbia for the Industry Canada Computer for Schools recycling project.
