Zaynab
In a Persian Fort near Zanjan arose a village maiden.
Compelled to defend her suffering friends under attack for their love of the Bab!
There gathered there at least eighteen-hundred of them.
They'd protect Hujjat to the very end.
He was their dearest companion, their champion, ablest teacher, leader and friend.
O Zaynab! O Zaynab! (repeat after every verse and chorus)
Chorus:
You raised a call that shook every heart.
You gave your all for your Beloved Bab.
So fired were you with a lofty Faith,
You took on an army of thousands of men. O Zaynab! O Zaynab!
2.
The sight of the hardships of her fellow men
Brought out in her hurt, deep compassion.
Stirred with a yearning she couldn't refuse, she didn't stand by to watch the abuse.
She cast away her locks of hair, disguised herself as a warrior.
No man ever showed such vitality, such courage as she and such bravery.
Chorus 2:
You raised a call that shook every heart.
You gave your all for your Beloved Bab.
So comely were you and so fair of face,
So rompin-stompin, so pure and chaste.
3.
Friend and foe both marveled at her.
With great admiration, their souls she did stir.
Only Hujjat, her leader recognized her.
He blessed her great effort and her unyielding will.
She girt on a sword, seized a musket and shield. She joined the ranks with fire and zeal.
For five months, she showed unrivaled heroism,
Strengthened and emboldened the hearts of her friends.
Chorus 3:
As the enemy charged, she bared her sword. Filled with might, she was assured.
Endowed with incredible audacity, she flung herself upon the enemy.
4.
She slept on her sword, and under her shield, but remained most of the time in constant vigil.
The forces of the enemy she did withstand with Ya-Sahibu'z-Zaman!
The sound of her voice struck fear in the troops.
"Don't flee from our face if ye be seekers of truth"
In a shower of bullets she finally died. With fearless devotion, she gave up her life.
Chorus 4:
They dreaded her influence, trembled as she came.
Facing her sword, they had nothing to gain.
She astonished them all when they found out her name.
What happened to the gentle maiden of tender age?
5.
Disdainful of food, and neglectful of sleep,
She'd toiled for the Cause, selfless and sweet.
With intrepid courage, true sublimity, adorned with God's Love eternally.
The traits of her character will always endure
As the spirit and the Faith of this young peasant girl
Crowned with attributes of purest gold,
Her standard of love was her finest robe.
Chorus 5:
So valiant was she, resourceful and free.
She won the name of Rustam-Ali
With prowess and spirit, she conquered by her deeds.
Astounding to see the amazing beauty of Zaynab! O Zaynab!
6.
In a Persian Fort neat Zanjan, men, women, children, eighteen-hundred of them
They all drank the cup of great martyrdom.
Thru agony and sorrow shone their heroism.
They were the members of a new born Faith,
Proclaimed by the Bab, the Tremendous Gate!
He was leading them on to a Glorious Fate,
To a Revelation of stupendous weight! Baha'u'llah's! Baha'u'llah's!
