Car Information and Specifications

Mercedes-Benz 300S

The 300S (and later 300SC) re-established Mercedes-Benz in the front rank of prestige car manufacturers, marking a return to the marque's tradition of building high-performance luxury automobiles of the finest quality. It was launched in 1951 and it was perhaps the rarest and most unusual post-war model to emerge from Mercedes. For its time the 300S was one of the world's most exclusive automobiles. It cost more than the 300SL, and almost twice as much as top-of-the-line Cadillacs. Only 760 300Ss of all types (Coupe, Cabriolet, and Roadster bodies) were produced between 1951 and 1958. All models were based on the already impressive 300 Saloon range and used a shortened saloon chassis. A triple-carb, 150bhp, 3.0 litre engine powered the 300S which was replaced in 1956 by the fuel injected 300SC.
