Star Wars CollectionAction Figures
I wasn't born yet when the original Star Wars Trilogy came out; A New Hope revolutionized the film industry in 1977 and Return of the Jedi ended one of the best Trilogies in cinema in 1983. Luckily, George Lucas decided to complete his vision after realizing how far his special effects company, Industrial Light and Magic, had progressed since it was created for the very first Star Wars movie. Jurassic Park proved that "digital characters can act and perform and walk around and interact with actors." It means that "cinema has gone from being a photographic medium to a painterly one." With this improved technology, Lucas not only decided to create a whole new trilogy, but also "buff up the older ones." Although this proved to be a conversational move (many fans wanted the original films that they saw when they were kids), a whole new generation, like me, were introduced first hand to some of the greatest movies in film history; A New Hope is rated #15 on The American Film Institute's top 100 movies of all time list and currently #8 on the Internet Movie Database. I started collecting Star Wars action figures in 1997 after I got hooked on the re-released Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition. I separated those figures in a "Heroes" shelf and "Villains" shelf. I was excited when Episode I came out in 1999 and I collected several figures and put them all on their own shelf. I don't have any figures from Episode II because when it came out in 2002, I was already 17 and I was too old and kind of lost interest. The fact that I ran out of room and the somewhat disappointment of Episode I probably also contributed :P. However, with Episode III: Revenge of the Sith getting rave reviews, I may just add a few more to my collection... ...and I did! |
