Shaak Ti (59 BBY – 19 BBY, pronounced /ʃɑːk tiː/) was a Togruta Jedi Master hailing from the planet Shili. Shaak Ti replaced Yaddle as a member of the Jedi Council in the years leading up to and during the Clone Wars, in which she served as a General.
Biography
Shaak Ti was an exotic alien female with decorated lekku, a Togruta. The hollow spaces in her montrals allowed her to ultrasonically perceive her surroundings, especially in bustling crowds. Unlike most members of her communal species, she was solitary by nature.
Her Jedi sense of detachment allowed her to hide her pain of the deaths of her two padawans, who were murdered by vicious killers just after passing the trials. One of those students was Fe Sun. She met her untimely end at the hands of the Zeltron criminal Lyshaa.
Master Ti was a very cunning warrior. A survivor of the Battle of Geonosis, Shaak Ti also fought at the Battle of Brentaal IV.
Shaak Ti was one of the Jedi to confront General Grievous on the planet Hypori, alongside Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura, K'Kruhk, Daakman Barrek, Tarr Seirr and Sha'a Gi. After surviving this encounter, she led a team including the Jedi Masters Foul Moudama and Roron Corobb in an attempt to get Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to safety when General Grievous's fleet attacked Coruscant. However, her two Jedi comrades were killed in combat. As General Grievous made off with Palpatine, Shaak Ti was bound with a "force-field rope" and left behind to send a message to any would-be rescuers.
Shaak Ti was killed during the Fall of the Jedi Temple at the hands of Jedi-turned-Sith Anakin Skywalker.
Behind the scenes
Portrayal
Shaak Ti was played by Orli Shoshan in Attack of the Clones and voiced by Grey DeLisle in the Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon.
Death
Shaak Ti had two different death scenes at various stages of Revenge of the Sith's development, but they were both deleted.
The first version was leaked to many Star Wars fan sites and described in the Hyperspace article "Into The Fuel Chamber" and the book The Making of Episode III. In various forms of this scene, General Grievous stabs her in the heart on the Invisible Hand with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi looking on. This was Lucasfilm's original idea, and appeared in storyboards and early drafts of the screenplay. This scene will be included in the Episode 3 DVD, though it cannot be Shaak Ti's canonical death since she appears as a hologram later in the movie, and the Clone Wars cartoon and Labyrinth of Evil stated that she survived Grievous' attack.
Another version, which was scripted, moved Shaak Ti's death to the Jedi Temple. This is in fact the correct one. Here, Darth Vader walks in her room, finds her meditating, and stabs her in the back. This scene was deleted, possibly because it seemed illogical that she would be meditating and not feeling the resonation of the carnage in the Temple through the Force. This meant that the original death scene could be reinstated. Variations of this scene were described in the Hyperspace article "The Cruel Fate of Shaak Ti". It was also the way Shaak Ti appears to have died in the novelisation of the film. The scene of the death itself is not described, but Vader asks the Gate Guard Jurokk where Shaak Ti is and proceeds to kill her. According to her article at the Databank, as well as another article at the official website, this is her actual death.
