NECA Sin City: Nancy ReviewIn April, NECA (The National Entertainment Collectibles Association) released their Sin City action figures, which are based on Robert Rodriguez’s 2005 neo-noir film, Sin City, which is based on the Frank Miller’s graphic novels of the same name. The movie was heavily marketed for having Jessica Alba playing the stripper, Nancy Callahan. And NECA is looking to do the same; Nancy is the only figure in their Series 1 line up to have four variations (their Series 2 line up is due out this August). Although every other figure comes in both black & white and color, Nancy also has 2 different head sculpts: a straight hair and a flowing hair version. This review concentrates on the black & white, straight hair version.
Sculpt: 4.5 / 5Excluding how much the likeness resembles Jessica Alba, which I will get to later, this highly detailed sculpt is simply amazing. Every little detail, like the little studs on her chaps and the zippers on her forearm coverings, are there. Everything from her boots, belt, guns and gun holsters, and hat all feature little details and patterns. For example, the bullets on her belt look neat. One might ask why a stripper has bullets on her belt. Actually, Nancy has pretty real looking bullets in the movie. I guess they're for controlling the customers...or maybe just for the gun she always kept loaded in her car. And the back of her belt even has her name on it…look higher. I didn’t catch it in the movie, but it’s likely to be authentic. The muscle details, like her abs and biceps, are also very well sculpted without over doing it; she looks fit from all those aerobic stripteases. And the overall proportion is very nice; she has a great hourglass shape.
The wrinkle effect is also nicely done; her chaps and forearm coverings, which have a nice soft-feel, accurately portraying tightly fit leather clothing. Although the figure is made of plastic, it looks and feels like it’s made from a more "expensive" material; the Black and White version, especially, looks like it’s craved from clay. The figure is also pretty heavy, which means you’re not just getting an outer shell. As mentioned, her chaps and forearm coverings feel soft and also have many tassels made of lines of cloth. They look really nice and each can be individually positioned. Furthermore, her guns and hat have fantastic detail and well...looks exactly like a cowboy, or cowgirl for that matter, hat. Same goes for her gun holsters, which are tied to her chaps with black strings. |
