Here are some poems that helped to brighten my dark stormy days of grief.   Babies Never Die  is an extra special poem to me. It was written by Judy Johnson. She was unable to find a poem appropriate for the quads and so she wrote one to read at their funeral.

A Little Bit OF Heaven
A little bit of Heaven came to all of us one day,
Then soon these little breaths of God
were suddenly snatched away;
The joy we'd built within our hearts
had now then turned to grief,
We felt that nothing found in
life could ever bring relief.
But nay then, when we meditate,
we find it otherwise,
The grief we have is really
but a blessing in disguise;
The waters of eternal life have
freed our babes from taint,
'Twas meant by God that we should
be the parents of two saints.

All Those Months
All those months
Your little heart beating so strongly
All those months is silent.
Your little arms and legs
Moving so vigorously are still.
Milk falling like tears from your mothers breasts
Will never nourish you.
Your eye's will never sparkle
Your little voice forever silent.
Your mother holds you in her arms,
Timidly kisses your soft, smooth cheek
Caresses your tiny fingers
And whispers your name with tears.
She dreams of holding you
Of watching you smile and grow
Her love is always with you
A love only a mother could know.

An Angel's Kiss
We go through life so often
Not stopping to enjoy the day,
And we take each one for granted
As we travel on our way.

We never stop to measure
Anything we just might miss,
But if the wind should blow by softly
You'll feel an Angel's Kiss

A kiss that is sent from Heaven
A kiss from up above,
A kiss that is very special
From someone that you love.

For in your pain and sorrow
An Angels kiss will help you through,
This kiss is very private
For it is meant for only you.

So when your hearts are heavy
And filled with tears and pain,
And no one can console you
Remember once again.....

About the ones you grieve for
Because you sadly miss
And the gentle breeze
You took for granted
Was just....."An Angel's Kiss"

Angel in Heaven
There's a special Angel in Heaven
that is a part of me.
It is not where I wanted her
but where God wanted her to be.

She was here but just a moment
like a nighttime shooting star.
And though she is in Heaven
she isn't very far.

She touched the heart of many
like only an Angel can do.
We held her every minute
for the end we all knew.

So I send this special message
to the Heaven up above.
Please take care of my Angel
and send her all my love.

Angel Wings
A precious angel slipped away, no one heard a cry.
No time for Dad and Mommy to sing me lullabies.
My time with you was much too short. I had to leave too soon,
But love had joined us as I grew inside my Mommy's womb.
It wove it's way within our hearts, in all our hopes and dreams,
Until the very purest love became my tiny wings.
Although I could not stay with you, I knew right from the start,
That once you felt your angel's love, you'd keep me in your hearts.
I'm just a little angel but my time was not in vain.
As dark clouds that surround you give way unto the sun,
My precious parents you will see that any heart will sing,
If only for a moment it is brushed by angel wings.

Babies Never Die - They Go to be With God
and Become Angels in the Sky
We do not know
Why babies are called home.
Only one knows,
God alone.

They arrive safely
At the gate of everlasting life.
Lovingly they are ushered in,
To the land with no more strife.

They enter into "forever"
Where they will never grow old.
There they will live in a place of beauty
Where streets are paved with marble and gold.

They become the Holy One's angels,
Receiving shiny new halos that glow.
They are adorned with strong new wings
And with angelic white robes that flow.

These angels shine up the sun
To new brilliance each day.
They put tails on puppies, whiskers on kittens.
They put colourful wings on butterflies, as they play.

Baby angels put sparkle into every moonbeam,
They mix soft colours for the rainbow,
They add glitter to the stars to make them gleam,
Brining joy wherever they go.

They tend God's sacred garden of flowers
And nurture them with loving care.
In the creator's presence they wile away the hours,
In this place called heaven - a land so fair.

On warm days they stir up a gentle breeze,
At dusk they give rise to a colourful new moon,
When tired, they rest on the Father's knees,
As they watch a new butterfly rise from its cocoon.

Angels teach spiders how to build a web,
They put new leaves and blossoms on trees,
They show thunder how to get our attention,
They paint black and yellow striped on bumblebees.
At Christmas angels create star shaped snowflakes,
They give flying creatures their wings,
They mix special paint for majestic sunsets,
Angels are tasked with many great things.

Kassandra, Zarah, Gabrielle, and Alexander
Are angels in the land of perfect peace,
The place we know as "paradise",
Where eternal beauty and goodness never cease.

Our precious ones are learning to fly,
As new angels up in the sky,
We will always remember our four angels with love,
As they watch over and guide us from up above.

Baby Prayer
Sleep the sleep of angels!
In the darkness of the night,
may peace surround and keep you
safe from the day's plight.
May they enfold you in their wings
and caress you through the eve.
Let them rock you through the night
drifting off to dream.
May the dreams you see be of love
That soothes you with it's song,
and brings a smile to your lips
'til morning comes along!

Blessings
Our children come into our lives
touch our hearts and souls
and start to build memories
No matter the pain, the frustration,
the sleepless hours
they are precious from the very first moment
Some blessings we enjoy for a lifetime
some for much shorter than we desire
but none the less .. they are blessings
The memories will last a lifetime
the love we feel will last forever
these blessings will NEVER be forgotten
We can dwell on the pain, the loss,
but that makes us sad and miserable
although we can't put those feelings aside
We can think on the love,
the good times .. the smiles,
the laughs .. the happy moments
and still find that we can count our blessings
one by one .. memory by memory
smile by smile and still feel the love we shared.

Child of Mine
"I'll lend you for a little while, a child of mine," He Said,
"For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead."
It may be six or seven years or twenty-two or three;
But will you 'Till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I've searched the wide world over in my search for Teachers True,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take him back again?

I fancied that I heard them say, 'Dear Lord, thy will be done;
For all the joy this child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with happiness; we'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay;
But should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.

Childless Mother
I am a childless mother.
There is an empty hole in my heart
Where my child is supposed to be.
Where there should be squeals and laughter
There is nothing but mind-numbing silence.
And look, there, in the corner sitting idly,
Waiting, is a child's rocker, my rocker-
The rocker that I used to sit in and imagine
Rocking my baby instead of just a doll.
And I realize, that as empty as that rocker seems,
My arms feel even heavier with the emptiness.
How can emptiness feel so heavy?
That emptiness carries my broken dreams,
My disappointments, my resentment.
Flutterby kisses never shared,
Laughter never heard,
Tears never brushed away
All weigh more than a child ever will.
There is an empty hole in my heart
Where my child is supposed to be.
I am a childless mother.

Dear Daddy
Once upon a time Daddy,
I sat upon your knee,
You looked at me and smiled,
And then said so happily
You're a special little child,
With many hopes and dreams,
If you'll just try hard enough,
You can do Anything.
"Anything" you said Daddy,
But how can that be?
Cause no matter how hard I've tried Daddy,
I can't get my baby back to me.
This time I hate to say,
That Daddy you were wrong,
My baby girl died Daddy,
And nothing can bring her home.
Most times you was right Daddy,
As I have learned through the years,
This time you can't fix things Daddy,
But you still can wipe my tears.

Dearest Mommy
When you wonder the meaning of life and love
Know that I am with you
Close your eyes and feel me kissing you
In the gentle breeze across your cheek
When you begin to doubt that you shall ever see me again
Quiet your mind and hear me
I am in the whisper of the heavens
Speaking of your love

When you lose your identity
When you question who you are
Where you are going
Open your heart and see me
I am the twinkle in the stars
Smiling down upon you
Lighting the path for your journey
When you awaken each morning
Not remembering your dreams
But feeling content and serene
Know that I was with you
Filling your night with thoughts of me

When you linger in the remnant pain
Wholeness seeming so unfamiliar
Think of me and know that I am with you
Touching you through the shared tears of a gentle friend
Easing the pain

As the sunrise illuminates the desert sky
In that breathtaking glory, awaken your spirit
Think of our time together, all too brief, but ever brilliant
When you were certain of your destiny

Know that God created that moment in time, just for us.

Dearest Mommy, I am with you always

Don't Cry for me Daddy
Don't cry for me Daddy,
I am right here.
Although you can't see me,
I see your tears.

I visit you often,
I go to work with you each day,
And when it's time to close your eyes,
On your pillow is where I lay.

I hold your hand and stroke your hair,
And whisper in your ear.
If your sad today Daddy
Remember I am here.

God took me home,
This we know is true.
But you'll always be my Daddy,
Even though I'm not with you.

I am Daddy's little boy,
We will never be apart,
For every time you think of me,
Please know I'm in your heart.

Dream
I am drawn quietly to her grave to check on her
Just as I'd have been drawn quietly to her crib.
I trim the grass around her marker
And dream of trimming the bangs from her forehead.
I place the flowers in her vase
And dream of placing ribbons in her hair.
I hold her memory dear to my heart
As I dream of holding her in my arms.

The Elephant in the Room
There's an elephant in the room.
It is large and squatting, so it is hard to get around it.
Yet, we squeeze by with, "How are you?" and "I'm fine"....
And a thousand other forms of trivial chatter.
We talk about the weather.
We talk about work.
We talk about everything -- except the elephant in the room.
We all know it is there.
We are thinking about the elephant as we talk.
It is constantly on our minds,
For you see, it is a very big elephant.
But we do not talk about the elephant in the room.
Oh, please, say her name.
Oh, please, say "Barbara" again.
Oh, please, let's talk about the elephant in the room.
For if we talk about her death,
Perhaps we can talk about her life.
Can I say "Barbara" and not have you look away?
For if I cannot, you are leaving me
Alone... in a room... With an elephant.

For Love of a Child
When God delivers angels
He picks a special few
To guard the cherished infant
He sends with love to you.

Rainbows gleam upon the clouds
When such a child arrives,
Whose tenderness and beauty
Will change so many lives.

When God retrieves an angel
For reasons of His own
His goodness and His mercy
Seem distant and unknown.

But paradise is knowing
A child who never grew
Holds tightly to God's fingers
And watches over you.

Heaven's Nursery
In Heaven there must surely be
A special place, a nursery
Where 'little spirits' not fully grown
Go to live in their Heavenly home.
The angels must attend with love
Tiny spirits on wings of doves,
The choir of angels must sing lullabies
Maybe quieten their tiny cries.
The Father must come by each day
To cuddle and play in a special way
These tiny spirits left earth to soon
Little ones called Home from just after the womb.
These sparks of life did not perish
But came to the Father's love to cherish,
To grow and be taught in His own arms
Safely away from all earthly harm.
The comforter was sent to earth at once
To the parents who lost their little one
Their hearts so ache, their arms feel empty
The question 'why' seems so tempting.
Then all at once in the midst of tears
There comes a peace that stills the fears
The parents share the Father's own need
To hold their tiny spirit being.
They relinquish their own desperate hold
And release their baby to the Father's fold,
Then comes an angel to whisper the truth
Of a nursery in Heaven bearing rich fruit.
Of tiny spirits chosen to worship the Father
A place that couldn't be filled by another,
Called to be spared from the struggles of earth,
Chosen to be one of Heaven's births.
So Father, whisper words of love from me
To our little little angel in your nursery.

If I Could Have a Lifetime Wish
If I could have a lifetime wish,
A dream that would come true,
I'd pray to God with all my heart for
Yesterday and You.

A thousand words can't bring you back;

And neither can a million tears;
I know because I've cried.

You left behind my broke heart
and happy memories too.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.

I'll Be There
Daddy please don't look so sad,
Momma please don't cry,
Cause I am in the arms of Jesus and
He sings me lullabies.
Please try not to question God,
Don't think He is unkind.
Don't think He sent me to you,
And then He changed His mind.
You see, I am a Special Child,
And I am needed up above,
I'm the special gift you gave Him,
The product of your love.
I'll always be there with you,
And watch the sky at night
Find the brightest star that's gleaming,
That's my halo's brilliant light
You'll see me in the morning frost,
That mists your windowpane.
That's me, in the summer showers,
I'll be dancing in the rain.
When you feel a gentle breeze,
From a gentle wind that blows,
That's me, I'll be there, Planting a kiss on your nose.
When you see a child playing,
And your heart feels a little tug,
That's me, I'll be there, giving your heart a hug.
So, daddy, please don't look so sad,
Mommy don't you cry.
I'm in the arms of Jesus,
and He sings me lullabies.

I'm Free
Don't grieve for me , for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times,
a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all to brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around him and whispered
"Come with me."
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer
and saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hardworking hands to rest;
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Heaven's Baby Castle
In a baby castle just beyond my eye
My baby plays with angel toys
that money cannot buy.

Who am I to wish her back
into a world of strife?

No, Play on my baby
You have eternal life.

At night when all is quiet
and sleep forsakes my eyes
I'll hear her tiny footsteps
come running to my side.

Her little hands caress me
so tenderly and sweet
I'll breathe a prayer and close my eyes
and embrace her in my sleep.

Now I have a treasure
that rates above all others
I have known true glory
I am still her Mother.

In My Mind
In my mind is a picture of fun
As we watch you grow and learn to run

The triplet stroller, pushing you at the mall
And oh so gladly showing you off

Away we'd all go to play in the park
And at night in your beds you'd giggle in the dark

Baseball, hockey, soccer, and more
We'd teach you and help you and cheer you to score

Our hearts would burst overflowing with pride
As one by one you would marry your bride

The pitter patter of little feet
Memories of when you were babies, so sweet

A beautiful, happy family of five
Blessed and thankful to be alive

But instead a great sadness fills our hearts
As our family of five was torn all apart

We'll meet again one day, you'll see
And live together for all eternity.

LIttle One
Little one, little one,
Where have you gone?
Your going has darkened
The brightest dawn.
Why did you leave us
so soon, so soon?
Where can we look for you?
Over the moon?
On butterflies wings?
In the heart of a roe?
Who knows,
who knows
Where a little one goes?
Where I have gone,
I am not so small.
My soul is as wide
As the world is tall.
I have gone to answer
The call, the call
Of the One who takes
Care of us all.
Wherever you look,
You will find me there-
In the heart of a rose,
In the heart of a prayer.
On butterflies wings,
On wings of my own,
To you, I'm gone,
But I'm never alone-
I'm over the moon.
I am home.

My Mom is a Survivor
My Mom is a survivor,
Or so I've heard it said.
But I can hear her crying
When all others are in bed.
I watch her lay awake at night
And go to hold her hand.
She doesn't know I'm with her
To help her understand.
But like the sands upon the beach
That never wash away...
I watch over my surviving Mom,
Who thinks of me each day.
She wears a smile for others...
A smile of disguise.
But through heaven's open door
I see tears flowing from her eyes.
My Mom tries to cope with my death
To keep my memory alive.
But anyone who knows her
Knows it's her way to survive.
As I watch over my surviving Mom
Through heaven's open door...
I try to tell her
Angels protect me forevermore.
I know that doesn't help her...
Or ease the burden she bares.
So if you get a chance, talk to her...
And show her that you care.
For no matter what she says...
No matter what she feels.
My surviving Mom has a broken heart
That time won't ever heal.

Native American Prayer
We give you this one thought to keep---
We are with you still--we do not sleep.
We are a thousand winds that blow,
We are the diamond glints on snow,
We are the sunlight on ripened grain,
We are the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
We are the swift, uplifting rush
of quite birds in circled flight.
We are the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of us as gone--- We are with you still--in each new dawn.

Pennies from Heaven
I found a penny today
Just laying on the ground,
But it's not just a penny
This little coin I've found.
Found pennies come from heaven
That's what my Grandpa told me,
He said Angels toss them down
Oh, how I loved that story.
He said when an Angel misses you
They toss a penny down,
Sometimes just to cheer you up
To make a smile out of your frown.
So don't pass by that penny
When you're feeling blue,
It may be a penny from heaven
That an Angel's tossed to you.

The Dance
Looking back,
on the memory of
the dance we shared
beneath the stars above
For a moment
all the world was right,
how could I have known
that you'd ever say goodbye
And I'm glad I didn't know
the way it all would end,
the way it all would go.
Our lives are better left to chance
I could've missed the pain,
but I'd a had to miss the dance.
Holding you
I held everything
for a moment, wasn't I the king?
If I'd only known how the king would fall
and who's to say...
you know I might have changed it all
And I'm glad I didn't know
the way it all would end,
the way it all would go.
Our lives are better left to chance
I could've missed the pain
but I'd a had to miss the dance
Yes, my life is better left to chance
I could've missed the pain
but I'd a had to miss the dance.....

The Gift That You Are
Startled and fascinated by the beauty and fragility
of your wings, I watch as you move
so gently
so quietly
almost unexpectedly
through my world

And then I watch as you move on,
fluttering softly into the distance.
Pleading silently, I beg you,
please ... don't go.

I haven't yet had the time
to memorize
to remember
to understand
the uniqueness of the beauty that is yours.

I know I cannot hold you for long,
capturing you for my world.
But, rest gently with me
if only for a moment.

That I may treasure the memory
and the beauty of the
gift that you are.

The Rosebud
On your journey to heaven,
Oh, littlest of angels,
I'll forever give thanks,
You came first to my arms,
Where you lay in warm sweetness
For the briefest of moments,
My name on your bracelet...
Baby girl of my own.

Not even a rosebud,
Nor the first crocus petal,
Could match the soft wonder
Of your small, flowering face...
Though you lingered, oh briefly,
Our torn hearts found comfort,
And your fair, infant presence
Gave our sorrow a grace.

Etched in our memories,
To hold and to treasure,
Are experiences we had not known;
These you gave, in your innocence,
To your mother and father;
And oh, little darling,
We are richer by far,
To have held you a moment,
Then to never to have held you
At all.

Their Journey's Just Began
Don't think of them as gone away,
their journey has just begun.
Life holds so many facets,
this earth is only one.

Just think of them as resting
from the sorrows and the tears,
in a place of warmth and comfort,
where there are no days and years.

Think of how they must be wishing
that we could know, today,
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of them as living
in the hearts of those they touched
for nothing loved is ever lost
and they were loved so much.

It broke our heart to lose you.

For a part of us went with you...

A ship sails, and I stand
Watching till she fades on the horizon
And someone at my side says
"She is Gone"
Gone where?
Gone from my sight, that is all
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me
Not in her
She is just as large as when I saw her...
The diminished size, and total loss of sight
is in me,
Not in her
And just at the moment when someone at my side says
She is Gone
There are others who are watching her coming
And other voices take up the glad shout
"Here she Comes"!
And that is dying.

What Makes a Mother
"I thought of you all, I closed my eyes
and prayed to God today.

I asked what makes a Mother
and I know I heard Him say,
A mother has a baby.
This we know is true.

But God can you be a Mother
when your baby's not with you?

"Yes you can!" He replied
with confidence in His voice.
I give many women babies,
when they leave is not their choice"

Some I send for a lifetime
and others for a day.
And some I send to feel your womb
but there's no need to stay.

I just don't understand this GOD,
I want my baby here.

He took a breath and cleared His throat,
and then I saw a tear.
I wish I could show you
what your child is doing today.

If you could see your child smile
with other children and say.

"We go to earth to learn our lessons
of love and life and fear,
My mommy loved me oh so much
I got to come right here.
I feel so lucky to have a mom
who had so much love for me.
I learned my lesson very quick,
my mommy set me free.
I miss my mommy oh so much,
I visit her each day.
When she goes to sleep
on her pillow's where I lay.
I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek
and whisper in her ear.
Mommy don't be sad today,
I'm your baby and I'm here."

So you see,
my dear sweet one,
Your children are OK.

Your babies are here in my home
and this is where they'll stay

They'll wait for you with me
until your lesson is through.
And on that day that you come home,
they'll be at the gates for you.

So now you see what makes a mother.
It's the feeling in your heart.
It's the love you had so much of
right from the very start.

Though some on earth may not realize
that you are a mother until their time is done
They'll be up here with me one day
and know you're the best one.

When God Calls Little Angels
When God calls little Angels to dwell with Him above
We mortals sometime question the wisdom of His love,
For no heartache compares with the death of one small child,
Who does so much to make our world seem wonderful and mild.
Perhaps God tires of calling the aged to his fold.
So he picks a rose bud, before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them, and so He takes but a few,
To make the land of Heaven more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult, still somehow we must try.
The saddest word mankind knows, will always be "goodbye".
So when a little child departs, we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children & angels are hard to find.

When God Made Moms
When the good Lord was creating mothers!!!!!
He was into His sixth day of "overtime when the angel appeared and said,
"You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one."
AND THE LORD SAID....."Have you read the specs on this order?
She has to be completely washable, but not plastic.
Have 180 moveable parts... all replaceable.
Run on black coffee and leftovers.
Have a lap that disappears when she stands up, a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair, and six pairs of hands."
And the angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands...no way."
"It is not the hands that are causing me problems," said the Lord,
"It's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have."
"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.
THE LORD NODDED....One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks
"What are you kids doing in there?" when she already knows.
Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't, but what she
has to know; and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when
he goofs up and say, "I understand and I love you", without so much as uttering a word."
"Lord", said the angel touching his sleeve gently, "go to bed, tomorrow...."
"I can't", said the Lord, "I'm so close to creating something so close to myself.
Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick....can feed a family of
six on one pound of hamburger, and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower."
The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly.
"It's too soft", she sighed.
"But tough!" said the Lord excitedly.
You cannot imagine what this mother can do or endure."
"Can it think?"
"Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise", said the Creator.
Finally the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek.
"There's a leak", she pronounced.
"I told you, you were trying to put too much into this model."
"It's not a leak", said the Lord. "It's a tear".
"What's it for?"
"It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness and pride."
"You're a genius", said the angel.
THE LORD LOOKED SOMBER..... "BUT I DIDN'T PUT IT THERE".

Why God Takes the Little Ones
Why God takes the little ones
I swear I'll never know
You had so much life to live
It just wasn't time to go.

For comfort, now, I think of you
With tiny little wings
Up above, in a beautiful place,
listening to angels sing.

You'll never know the pain I feel
The hurt you left behind.
Oh, what I wouldn't give to hold you one more time.

I carried you in my womb,
Then I carried you in my arms
And now, until it no longer beats
I'll carry you in my heart
