Zarah Mae Chantel Hicks was our second born child. She was the first quad to
be delivered by c-section. She entered the world quietly on November 27th, 2001
at 6:07AM. She was 24 4/7 weeks gestation and weighed 1 pound 4 ounces. |
Zarah never really stabilized after birth. That evening just before supper the
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit called the ward to say that Mommy and Daddy had
to come there right away. Mommy was put in a wheelchair and pushed the 10 minute
walk over to the NICU. |
This was the first time Mommy had seen Zarah. She was a petite, delicate
looking little girl. |
The nurses had said a blessing over her, washed her and dressed her. They took
her off the ventilator and handed her to Mommy to hold. |
Zarah was the first quad that Mommy got to hold. Her head fit in Mommy's palm
and she was no longer than Mommy's forearm. |
She was dressed in a white knit dress with a matching hat that looked like a
christening gown. She died as quietly as she was born at 5:33PM on the 27th of
November. Zarah was cremated and placed in an urn with her sister Gabrielle.
Their urn and their sister and brother's urn are in the same niche right near
their uncle and great-grandmother. |
