Gabrielle Josephine Alisa Hicks was our third born. She entered the world on
November 27th, 2001 at 6:09AM. She was 24 4/7 weeks gestation, 30.5cm long and
weighed a whopping 1 pound 6 ounces. She was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit with her brother and sister. |

 |
It took a little while to stabilize her but she fought to live with the same
bossy, pushy attitude she had displayed in Mommy's tummy. She too was a pretty
little girl. Unfortunately her upper lip is discoloured in most pictures due to
bruising from the ventilator tape. |
|
The morning of the 29th Mommy and Daddy went down to the NICU to visit. The
doctors were working hard to save Gabrielle as one of her lungs had collapsed.
No sooner had they reinflated one and the other collapsed. |
 |
 |
Mommy and Daddy made the decision to let Gabrielle die peacefully. She was
baptized with her family present and then taken off the ventilator and given
to Mom to rock. |
|
She fought to open her eyes and see the world. Gabrielle lived for 20 minutes
without life support before she died at shortly after 12:30PM. She was cremated
and placed in an urn with her sister Zarah. Their urn and their sister and
brother's urn are in the same niche right near their uncle and great-grandmother. |
