Subject: Info on, and RFP for, the Canada-wide DGPS Service Newsgroups: sci.geo.satellite-nav Date: Mon, 17 Jun 2002 20:30:13 -0700 The information below comes from an RFP for "Marketing, Distribution and Sales of the Canada-wide DGPS Service": http://www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca/data/itqs/130_1070-25-064.htm =================================================================== A Canadian government consortium consisting of all provinces, the government of Nunavut, and the government of Canada has developed a national real-time differential global positioning system (DGPS) service, known as the Canada-wide DGPS (CDGPS) service. The CDGPS service will provide geo-referencing in the field with an accuracy of 1-5m, 2DRMS, using single frequency GPS receivers, and sub-metre with dual frequency GPS receivers capable of directly incorporating the CDGPS correction feed. The corrections will be broadcast over the Mobile Satellite Ventures’ (MSV) MSAT satellite and be available to end-users across all of Canada at no charge. The CDGPS service will be comparable to the existing major public differential positioning services, WAAS and the Coast Guard, in terms of accuracy, reliability, availability and cost, yet complementary because of specific performance advantages. The service and its operating protocol will be open and publicly available in order to create a rich development environment and stimulate a wide variety of supporting tools and applications. As part of this effort, the consortium has seeded the development of a custom-built radio that receives the CDGPS signal from the MSAT satellite and physically connects to GPS receivers and or other devices (such as Personal Digital Assistants). A private sector dealer network is now being developed in order to distribute this CDGPS receiver to the market. The purpose of the Request for Proposal is to solicit proposals from prospective Proponents who are interested in distributing this CDGPS receiver. Distribution arrangements will be structured as formal license agreements. Depending on the proposals received under this RFP, one or more license agreement(s) may be negotiated with the Proponent(s). =================================================================== I don't have any role in the CDGPS project, or this RFP process. I just thought some of you might be interested in the information.
