In the spring of 2001 I purchased my first Global Positioning System(GPS) receiver, a Garmin eTrex Venture.

If you are new to GPS you should be aware of the sources of information listed in the GPS Resources section. You might also want to take a look at the information in the Maps and Software areas of this website, and on the Links page.

If you are wanting to purchase a GPS receiver, the Buying a GPS receiver page contains information that may help you make your decision.

The GPS reception in trees page provides some information and examples about using your GPS when under tree cover.

I have made a number of postings to the GPS-related newsgroups, some of which are available in the Newsgroup postings section, and the Links section contains various GPS-related information.

If you are not familiar with Newsgroups or Usenet, then you are missing out on a valuable information resource. There are some links to some starting points on my Links page.
Listed below are a few of my GPS-related newsgroup postings. These are primarily to the sci.geo.satellite-nav newsgroup, which is the "main" GPS-related newsgroup. Some people also use the alt.satellite.gps newsgroup. All of these postings should be available via the Google Groups archive as well, where you can see them in context(i.e. view the complete thread).
