Q: Are you related to any Wilcher's in Indiana and I was trying to get into acting and with so many agencies out there, how do I find a reputable one?
Voleria Wilcher
wilcv750@robertmorris.edu

A: Thanks for your questions Voleria.

No, I'm not related to any Wilcher's in Indiana...at least none that I know of.

Finding a reputable Agency sometimes can only be done through trial and error.  But here's a couple of pointers:

BOOKS:
3 Books that I've found that have a wealth of info on getting a reputable agent, avoiding scams, and breaking into the acting industry include:

"How to Break Into Motion Pictures Television Commercials & Modeling"  By: Nina Blanchard (Avon Books & Publishing)

"Your Film Acting Career"  By: M.K. Lewis &
Rosemary R. Lewis  (Gorham House Publishing)

"The Glam Scam--Successfully Avoiding the Casting Couch and Other Talent and Modeling Scams"
By:  Erik Joseph  (Lone Eagle Publishing Co.)

Another way is to contact the Screen Actors Guild in either Los Angeles, New York or Chicago and ask for a list of "SAG Franchised Agencies" in your area or near you.
'SAG Franchised' means they've signed an agreement to abide by the rules of the Union--which includes treating the talent they represent fairly and honestly.

If you research an agency alone...one of the ultimate telltale signs and 'red flags' that they might be a scam is if one of the conditions of signing with them is that they require you to PAY THEM MONEY...usually in the form of a 'registration fee'...or to pay for 'their' acting classes or 'their' photo shoots.  No legit agency asks you for money upfront for ANYTHING!  If an agent asks you to do this...you should not sign with them, and head straight for the nearest EXIT!  The only time an agency gets money from you is when they book you for a job, and the client pays you for that job...then, the agency get's a 'commisssion'...usually 10% of your acting salary and 15% of a modeling salary.  There are exceptions to this rule...but this is generally the way it works.

An agent might ask you to invest money into getting photographs, or paying a membership with an online casting database...but you usually pay this money directly to these individuals offering these services, and not to the agent.

I hope this info helps you a little.
Good Luck with your career!

Q: WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO BE IN SLEEPAWAY CAMP 3?
David Terpstra

A: It was my first acting job on a full length movie so it was very exciting and alot of fun.
But it was also very cold because alot of our scenes were shot outdoors.
Thankyou for your question, David.
Best Wishes
