#1 - Expand last year's strip garden along the sidewalk... the plan EVENTUALLY is to make this whole "triangle" area a garden.. #2 - This is going to be my Secret garden project. I have had this Idea running through my head for a couple of years, I think I'm going to try it this year. If it turns out, I'll tell you all about it and show pictures... if not, well, I'll probably say I didn't get around to it. |
How the projects are going so far....
May 22 - They're not! We have had such cold, rainy weather the last few weeks. The normal rainfall
level for April 1 to this date is 70 mm and we have had 119. There hasn't been much opportunity to do
regular gardening, never mind work on new projects. It's unlikely I'll cut out more grass for Project
#1 until fall because most of the perennials I planned to put there are now too big to divide. All I did was cut out a
small triangle so I could move some daylilies and a baby's breath. And Project #2 will continue to sit on the back
burner until next year.
New Members of the Garden!
Filipendula Purpurea (Meadowsweet) 'Elegans'.
New Lilies: Fata Morgana (double yellow) and Black Beauty.
See the picture of Fata Morgana in July photographs below.

May 21 - Oh, well, since I don't have any gardening pictures yet, how would you like to see a
picture of our new car?
June Photographs!
The following pictures were all taken on June 26, 1999:
I joined 12 photos together to create this panoramic view (78K). Although it's not great on details (much shrunk) it gives a good continuous view of the entire shade garden.
Half of the sun garden. The pinkish flower in the center is penstemon. Baby's breath (foreground) is just beginning to bloom; lychnis (red) is at the far end. The yellow blooms just past the penstemon are (left) sundrops and (right) helianthus.
Yard view, looking east. To the left is the arbour garden, center is last year's new kidney-shaped garden, and in the background the shade garden.
The progression of creeping jenny along the front walk.
July Photographs!
A combination of lilies and yarrow. If you don't look at any others, look at this one.
One of my baby's breath. This one measures 4 feet in diameter. It's easy to fill up a garden when plants grow this well.
Gaillardia (blanket flower).
My hanging basket. This was a new (unplanned) addition to the shade garden this year.
Fata Morgana, new this year, my first double lilies.
Yard view from the shade end of the kidney-shaped garden, looking north towards the house.
A view of the rock garden with campanula in bloom.
August Photographs!
In the foreground is liatris with purple coneflower behind.
A picture of obedient plant. Orange lilies grow in the background.
A picture of the sun garden.
An individual picture of ligularia (elephant ears). This is its second year.
Also in its second year is hydrangea paniculata 'pink diamond' .
