Welcome to Debbie's Garden Tour Hello! My name is Debbie. I started my gardening page in 1996 and have added to it yearly. For a while, I have considered this intro page to be pretty useless. When I began a long overdue revamp in 2010, I thought about eliminating it. However, I really like the gate graphic and me as a daylily, even though it was me something like 4 hair colours ago. Plus it's somewhere to put the introduction stuff and get that out of the way. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, gardening Zone 3, where the soil is heavy clay. I started my first basic garden the year after moving into our house in 1985. My love of perennial gardening grew over the years with most of my original plants coming to me as divisions from my mom. I didn't do all the double-digging and soil-enriching that the books said I should have... I simply dumped a couple inches of topsoil over the clay, dug some holes and planted away! If it didn't grow with THAT much care, I didn't want it anyway. Most of my gardens are shade gardens. Even my Rock Garden is atypical because most of it is in shade; it just happens to have a lot of rocks in it. I like crowded plantings, too. If I see any dirt, I perceive that as a failure.
