Melida was just a baby when the Altwasser family departed from the town of Alexandrov, Volhynia, Russia on April 11, 1894 and started their journey of immigration to Canada. She was born on February 8, 1893 in the Shitomir Parish area of Volhynia, the seventh daughter of Friedrich W. Altwasser and Wilhelmine Wilde. The 1901 census recorded her as being born on February 8, 1893 and that she could read and write.
Melida was nine years old when her family moved to Yellow Grass. She grew up at Yellow grass and married a neighbor, August Teske, June 18, 1912 in a double wedding ceremony with her brother Friedrich. Their only child was born on February 3, 1914 at Yellow Grass. Sadly, Melida died the day after the birth and was buried in the Yellow Grass Cemetery. The child was named Emil Wilhelm Teske.

More About August Teske August married again on May 30, 1920 to Lydia Arndt at Yellow Grass Saskatchewan. There were three girls born from this union. August passed away on September 29, 1960 at Star City, Saskatchewan and Lydia passed away in September 1987, also at Star City. The town of Star City is a farming community situated 19 km east of Melfort and 19 km west of Tisdale, just off of Highway No.3.
