Looking east along the winding road out of the Panamint Valley. In the distance are the Panamint Mountains that form the west side of Death Valley. We crossed these mountains leaving the Valley. The valley is below sea level and the mountain pass is above 5,000 feet.

.

On this trip to the Valley, we stayed at the Furnace Creek Ranch and used it as a base for exploring the many interesting places that are part of this National Park.

One of our side trips was up the long winding road to Dante's View  [ back to CR-V page ]

Once at Dante's View, there is a magnificent view of the Valley. With the elevation at Dante's View well over 5,000 feet and the valley floor below sea level, we are looking at a valley that's floor is a mile below us. The view to the right is looking north and Furnace Creek is a small green spot at the base of the mountains to the far right.
