A brief FAQ for Servants of Tulzscha, Brotherhood of the Green Flame website

Q: What is Call of Cthulhu?
A:From
Chaosium's own web site:

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
and with strange eons even death may die.
-- Abdul al-Azrad

CALL OF CTHULHU is both a horror role playing game and a line of fiction from Chaosium, based primarily upon the writings of Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The setting is most often the Roaring 1920's when much of the world remains unexplored; the dark and forbidden realms are inhabited by hideous monsters, powerful entities, otherworldly horrors, and their worshippers. Call of Cthulhu games can be set in any era including the present day, the far future, Victorian England, or any other period players desire.

Lovecraft himself wrote during the 1920s and 1930s, and he became a cult figure before dying in 1937. Since then his stature has grown, and now he is generally recognized as the major American horror-story writer of the twentieth century.

The Cthulhu Mythos is named after a god-like entity, Cthulhu (kuh-THOO-loo is the easiest, though not the most exacting way to say it). Many Great Old Ones, Cthulhu included, are prophesied to wake and to lay waste to the world 'when the stars are right.'

Q: What is the Servants of Tulzscha, Brotherhood of the Green Flame all about? Are they are a real cult?
A: That depends on if you are talking about Real Life™ or the RPG Call of Cthulhu.
In Call of Cthulhu the Servants of Tulzscha is a cult founded in Kingsport and by the New Aeon have members worldwide.
As cults go there are mostly benign, trusting in Tulzscha to handle conflicts and only using force to defend themselves or allies such as Yithians and Mi-Go.

In Real Life™ the Servants of Tulzscha is just a group of people who share a common fascination for the works of H.P.Lovecraft and myriad of works based on his original writings, including Call of Cthulhu and Mythos.

So, as you can see, it is not a 'real' cult. So there's not need to send nasty letters attacking me, or scary letters describing what you do to so worship Tulzscha, or money or other donations to help support my cult. ... On second thought, send money. And Mythos cards. But especially money.

If you seriously would like to help me out you can send me a copy of the OOP Call of Cthulhu supplement, Kingsport: The City in The Mists. I've seen it a couple of times a year on E-bay, but almost always the seller on ships to the US, or only takes checks drawn on American banks, etc. If you have a copy you'd be willing to give up, e-mail me.

Q: How can I join The Servants of Tulzscha?
A: Again, this depends on if you are talking about Real Life™ or the RPG Call of Cthulhu.
In Call of Cthulhu it would be up to your GM to determine if you are allowed to join. But your must meet certain qualifications:
  1. You must be of a academic mindset having at least one science or math at 80% or more. Astronomy is of particular interest.
  2. You must be gifted artistically having at least one art or craft skill at 60% or more. This could include writing skills, especially if you also have a foreign languages also at 60% or more.
  3. You must be able to defend your fellow Servants if hostile forces attack. This could be with conventional weapons (50% or more to the related skills) or with magic (17 or more POW and 2 or more usefully spells.
If you do join you might want to e-mail me your character information (including where and when you play in Call of Cthulhu) so other GMs can use you in their campaigns.

In Real Life™ joining is much simpler. Simple e-mail me, Brother Alpha with:
  1. Your cult name - should sound Latin, Greek, Arabic or other similarly cultish languages.
  2. Your base of operations - where you live, city or even just your country will do.
  3. Any particular skills you can bring to our Brotherhood - lying is perfectly acceptable here.

Q: Can I use any of the information here in my campaign of Call of Cthulhu?
A: Sure. Keep in mind, that while this Web Site is only available in New Aeon, The Servants of Tulzscha has been around for a long time and would be available in all time periods.

Q: What are the game stats for this site and the tomes and spells contained in it?
A: For the most part the tomes here are from Call of Cthulhu or related fiction. As for the original works, that's for GMs only, so no peaking players.

Notes: This book was written with one purpose, to burn away a cultists sanity without giving him any useful information. It was written on the vellum of an unknown creature and bound in it's hide. Truly a horror to see. It was kept in the main vault of the S.I.E.P.T. and made to look like their prize possession. If a theif was only able to take one item, this would surely be it. There are several spells within the text, but they are all flawed in one or more ways making successful casting impossible. Furthermore, each spell has at least one self-destructive aspect. (I.E. lose of an eye, index finger, symbole burned into the forehead, etc.) This was done to mark the cultist(s) who stole the text easier to identify making retrival easier.

Spell: Simulacrum of Tulzscha

This is a major ritual which should only be attempted by the most devout worshippers of Tulzscha. When people this dedicated to Tulzscha die their minds remain alive and active for quite some time after death. Starting at dawn during the first solstice of this period handlers chant to Tulzscha while anointing the body will oils and perfume. After sunset the body solidifies and turns into a rocky golem.

During the course of the ritual each handler is temporarily drained of all but one MP and loses 1 Sanity. The target loses 1D10 sanity. If the total MP drained from the handlers is less than 6 times the sanity lost by the target, then the ritual fails and the body is not completely incorporated.

If this rituals goes well the body is completely incorporated in stone and two important abilities: Know Tulzscha's Will and Dopplegang.

Know Tulzscha's Will is very inexact, it is basically left to the GM to determine how the users perceives this knowledge and how accurate it is. The users emotions can heavily influence the information they receive, so if they truly believe killing Josiah Bishop-Stewart, then this ability might confirm that belief, no matter how wrong it is. Being able to use the skill Zen to calm themselves of emotions would help in this case.

Dopplegang is the ability to completely mimic the appearance of a person. The person being mimics is then transported to the Court of Azathoth, where their fate is unknown. (But most likely, very unpleasant.)

The Golem also has 8 points of Stone Armour.

Note: Shan'tuu's attempt to complete the ritual partially failed. Due to this he loses 1D4 Dexterity and Speed while in human form. It also meant that Shan'tuu always had a black scar on his left leg, something his followers mimiced.
